I thought Houston had a lot more sit out. This just sounds like the writing is on the wall and these players want an opportunity to play elsewhere.

I think the transfer portal has been more beneficial to the G5 than the P5. It’s help create a little more parity in my opinion.

Thats not really the "coog" strategy. The kids involved in this effort apparently want to go elsewhere. I think most of the UH kids that red shirted that year stayed at UH. I think King and a receiver left. Honestly, this sounds like maybe we dont have the whole story. SMU is having a good year---which is yet another way this differs substantially from what happened at Houston a few years ago. Im wondering if these are kids that arent playing and probably never will at SMU.

Go look at the minutes these kids have played and tell me if I should be worried or not. I’ll save you the time, I am not other than it’s disruptive and we’re losing practice players. Kids want to play and realize it’s not going to be at SMU. Roderick is explosive just can’t stay not hurt.

Ulysses Bentley did this last year and that pissed me off now he’s riding the pine at Ole Miss.

We’ve raised $5,000,000 a year for football NIL, we can go shopping in the off season.

It's one thing to enter the portal - but another entirely to quit midseason. You NEVER know what is going to happen. ECU is going onto our 3rd & 4th RB's now. Never know when your # is going to get called. It is weak, baby sh*t to quit midseason.

3 of the 4 will be playing at a lower division next year.

You don't think this is just Dykes grabbing his recruits?

Ask Jimbo how that big wallet shopping works out for you or Ohio State NIL that paid Ewers a million dollars. That's pretty rich SMU thinking they can buy their way. LOL

Transfers aren't unusual. Quitting after 4 games to preserve a season of eligibility is.

Has anybody done that besides at Houston or SMU?

If I'm a player who knows he's not a fit for a new staff, I'd do it. Get that extra year and get the free diploma and perhaps start on a graduate degree.

The days of doing it for the program are over. Look out for yourself, son. Coaches already do.

Great plan but the buyout to steal Dana away is almost as steep as the buyout to fire him.

Dana+UH are together like the ACC GOR… both gonna be around for a while.

Under NIL, I think increased accountability for player's performance is warranted. I now discard the moral obligation to keep players on scholarship year to year despite underachievement.

You already can if you want to.

We also don't use those old leather helmets anymore and there is this new fangled forward pass thing. I don't think it will catch on, though.

It's still funny. One AAC school doing it is weird. Two doing it is a trend.

Now fans are going to brace for potential quitters after 4 games.

players have quit at other schools before...altho not to preserve a redshirt per se. Some given no choice to go, some having pro aspirations... a la Memphis.

Of course. I'm talking THIS situation, preserving redshirts.

Has anybody else done that besides Houston and SMU? Have multiple players quit after 4 games and plan to enter the portal?

Perhaps. But where you gonna get a better paycheck than SMU AND INCREASE YOUR PLAYING TIME? That’s a tough double. It will be interesting to see where these four guys end up. They’re not starters and have already been recruited over or beaten out by transfers FROM P5’s.

Most ARE special teams guys and that might hurt a bit but basically there’s “nothing to see here .”

Seems like the whole team has quit. It's just that the rest didn't mentioned it. Gonna need a bigger, bigger MUCH BIGGER NIL fund.

If that's true, it's usually a coaching issue, and SMU might have another coaching transition ahead.

However, that's pure speculation at this point.
