Why would Tulane alumni fly in from around the country to see ECU? Anyway I was there. What I saw was 24-9, Tulane. I was also there the last time Ahlers and ECU were there in 2018 and what I remember was 24-18, Tulane. Tulane joined the AAC in 2014. Since then Tulane is 4-2 vs the Pirates, 2-0 at home, 2-2 at bfECU.

What a funny thread. When a team hasn’t been won (or ranked) for a long time it takes time to get the fans and city engaged. Ranked Tulane is doing that, but of course it will still take time.

I do like the guy who said Gameday doesn’t do non p5 games and then Created a (partial) list of times they did.

Then you’ve got to love the other random trolls from ECU (how did that game go for you ?) and Cinci who are randomly on here (poorly) attempting to bash Tulane.

He may very well be, but that's 4 weeks away. If UCF and Tulane Keep winning then it will be a top 20 team vs a top 25 team at least. It would have competition, but NOLA is an easy trip for ESPN.

You have zero fan support during the best season in Tulane history.

It’s pathetic honestly. You have a good team but nobody in New Orleans cares, otherwise there would be butts in the seats. We literally had nobody else on our row, the 3-4 rows in front of us, or 2 rows behind. It is the worst away atmosphere I’ve ever experienced by a mile.

Why is ECU one of the top teams? Their history? Because they get some fans to show up? People only care about markets and academics, Tulane is proving that right now. Rice will be in that category as well and so will Navy. Winning games 20 years ago won’t cut it ECU.

The ECU game was not well attended. I have been going to games for 30+ years (my late father and grandfather since since the 1930's). Long time Tulane fans are ambivalent about it.

RE your comment. I was largely just taking a shot the ECU guy for kicks. ECU is no different from most of the teams we play. I have noticed that since we have been on TV games there are less people at day games. I don't think the time announcements just 13 days before the games helps with casual fans who plan their days out weeks in advance.

The thing that separates Tulane from ECU is the Tulane games are not community events in any way. The Saints games are the community football events on Sundays. Tulane games are just another form of entertainment in an entertainment rich city for casuals. Add that too Tulanebeing a small school. 8k undergrads. Of those the majority are not from south Louisiana. That leaves few graduates in the area. Then you throw in a lot of losing in the last 40 years.

In 1998 when Tulane went undefeated we filled 1/;3 to 1/2 of the domes the last third of the season. The best crowds were at around 30k.

What is interesting is Tulane's TV Numbers perform much better than you would think considering how few people go to games. Since Tulane alum are spread out so this makes since.

Tulane isn't going to win the attendance pissing contest. We Tulane fans know that.

For what its worth Houston doesn't win those much either. I'm sure our programs struggle from a lot of the same things, though for yall you also add in the difficulties of having a smaller student body. I hope things continue to move in a positive direction for you guys under Fritz. Its always fun to see teams that have been down turn it around.

Two words, head coach. Same reason why Tulane would be one of my picks to be one of the top teams in the first years of the new American. Having a competent HC makes all the difference in the world.

Bless your heart, shere.

Likely more OSU fans than Cincy fans in Cincy, right? Just from a #'s perspective - they have the much larger bandwagon base.

It’s not even close. Now, once you leave Hamilton county, the equation changes. But the whole county is significantly heavier UC than OSU.

Buckeye fans notoriously hate this part of the state because it’s the only part that refuses to bend to the will of the almighty buckeye. They refer to Cincinnati as Cincitucky and don’t like to count it as part of Ohio, all because of the lack of OSU fandom.. Which is intended as an insult but I don’t know why. It’s fairly accurate.

There’s obviously OSU fans here, but as compared to the 90s it’s a different story now with UC having completely taken over the region.

Nope

I know this is older, but Cincy had a long way to go to capture their own market from OSU. Memphis and UCF were the only AAC teams to lead their markets.

Fanbase Survey NYT

Ah, I was hoping someone would bring up that survey. The data they used for that map was based on Facebook likes for the schools football specific team page account in some cases while using main athletics for others. Schools don’t all have uniform social media pages.

Today for instance, UC football’s page has 50K ‘likes’ while the main athletics page has 189k. They used the football page while using the main athletics page for many other schools. What’s worse, UC had just finally started their team pages that year, and most people had been using the main account to follow UC sports at the time. The way they did it, UC was woefully underrepresented in that study.

If you don’t believe me, the data for zip code 45219, the zip code that the university campus is actually located in, has the data listed for the top 3 schools in order as Ohio State, Kentucky, and then Michigan. So unless you believe that UC isn’t even a top 3 most popular team in the zip code the campus is located on, then it’s pretty easy to see they missed some data.

There were numerous problems with that study, using incomparable data was just one of them.

People who haven’t lived in Nola don’t understand. Nola is Tulane and we very much control the market there. I would also say we have parts of Louisiana and Mississippi in our favor too.

As they fail to sell out their 30k stadium and tickets are available online for $20-100.

I took this photo from my seat at Tulane during the ECU game. 3:04 to go in the 1st quarter.

Which Tulane excuse do you want?

A) All the fans were in the club when that picture was taken.
B) It was a bad camera angle...You just don't see all the fans just out of the frame...
C) The fans really ARE there...they just blend in with the seats.
D) Like YOU could do better!

I guess they could borrow the NIU excuse:
E) The Fire Marshall wouldn't let them in.

I guess they could pull a "Uconn" and decide that they are a "basketball school" and that "You know, nobody in this conference is worth getting excited about..." just before they ink a much more exciting series with Fresno State...

As I noted, it’s perfectly accurate, I’m just saying that it’s used as a way to distance Cincinnati from being part of the state, which it is. I mean over three quarters of the metro population is in the state of Ohio.

It bothers OSU fans to no end that the buckeyes don’t get the same traction in the Cincy area. You’ve seen it repeatedly in recruiting, obviously more so recently after Fickell arrived.

To say Cincinnati is provincial may be the understatement of the all time. To most locals, if it didn't happen in Cincinnati it ain't worth worrying about. Even before UC elevated it's football program, Ohio State never had much of a following down here. Ohio State was Columbus's team. Most Cincinnatians identify way more with our neighbors down south than we do with them flat landers up north. Maybe because everybody's mamaw and papaw were from Kentucky, I don't know.....As a whole Cincinnatians don't have much use for Ohio, and we have zero use for Ohio State....

RE: College Gameday at Tulane Nov 12th ?
It would be perfect. Public executions used to draw huge crowds, Saturday should be no different. And after the Tigers are slaughtered, Silverfield will blame his players for stepping off on the wrong foot.
