At one time, this would have been a plum job.

There is no shortage of money or resources for the Temple basketball program. They should be able to open up the checkbook to get a quality coach in the door. I’m sensing Pat Kelsey or Matt Langel.

Yeah, I'm confident Temple will find someone good. It's a shame McKie didn't work out, but, he was a succession guy. I wasn't expecting his journey go the way that it did, but, I didn't envy his track, either.

St. Joe's and La Salle will have it harder when they're up for this again. I feel like La Salle was just kicking the can down the road when it signed Dunphy.

Would Langel be a good choice for Temple?

Personally? I would look to another coaching tree than the Dunphy one. I liked Fran, and didn’t like how Temple handled his succession with McKie, but Langel looks like Fran 2.0. Hey, Fran was successful at Temple, but nowhere near as good in the AAC than he was in the A10, and none of it was as good as Chaney.

Langel isn’t the better version of Fran. I think he’d do better at a place like Tulane or Rice in the AAC where he could recruit the more scholarly-type student athletes.

Getting closer and closer for Pitino to St. John's.

Also looks like Cooley to Georgetown will happen in next 24-48 hours.

Interesting. You know what you’re getting with Cooley and maybe he feels he did all he could at PC.

Georgetown has been a dumpster fire for years, so expectations shouldn't be too crazy. However, if he's enjoying his time at Providence and the money isn't much more, hard to see how he improves his long term prospects by leaving. He's had good, sustained success at Providence, he should hold out for a hefty raise if he decides to start over somewhere else.

And for Providence, how many more raises can they keep giving Cooley? This isn't the first time he seriously flirted with another gig, and they have given bumps (I believe) the last three off-seasons. For what he would be making would be more than Sampson at Houston and Mark Few at Gonzaga, without their results.

I remember someone on this board calling Pitino back to the Big East, perhaps St. John's just a couple weeks ago.

Pastner would clean that place up. Dave Rice was an excellent recruiter at UNLV.

Pastner would actually be a solid hire for NMSU. He played at Arizona.

The more I think about it, the more I like the Pitino to St. John's move. RP could energize the Red Storm program. And it would be exciting for the Big East in a general sense.

I wouldn't touch NMSU with a 10 foot pole. I'd go anywhere else over Las Cruces right about now. I'm sure Pastner will have other opportunities.

Why? It's easier now to blow up a program and start over, unless you think the big bad NCAA is coming down on them.

Pitino meeting with St. John's tonight. I wouldn't be surprised if he waits just a little while longer until Cooley/Georgetown/Providence outcome gets resolved (which should be tonight or tomorrow). If Providence does open up, it is unclear if Pitino would consider that opening (or even if feeling would be mutual).

Cooley will not sleep easily tonight. I'm sure he will wrestle with this decision.

I think it's a match made in heaven. Can you imagine NYC with a resurgent St. John's? The recruiting? Besides, he's already in NY and Iona is only about 20 miles from St. John's.

That Pastner positivity is just what they need. He could be very successful out there for years.
