Big 12 TV Deal done
don't think it's been posted
The once-beleaguered Big 12 has stabilized its future by coming to terms with ESPN and Fox Sports on a six-year media rights agreement worth a total of $2.28B, an annual average of $380M, according to sources. The Big 12 has two years remaining on its current deal, which runs through the 2024-25 season at an annual average of $220M in its final years. The new six-year extension runs through 2030-31.
For the “A” package, ESPN gets the top four football picks each season, six of the top eight picks, eight of the top 12 picks and 12 of the top 20 picks. As part of the deal, ESPN also gets the rights to the Big 12 football championship game and the basketball tournament championship game. The Big 12’s parity helped convince Fox, whose package includes 26 football games per season that will run on Fox broadcast network and FS1, to do the deal.

RE: Big 12 TV Deal done
That’s $31.7M a year per team in just TV money, not including CFP money and other revenue streams. Bad news for all the doubters and naysayers.

So about $27m per season? Pretty mid. Definitely bad news for PAC.

Looks like $31.7 if my division is correct. I guess the commissioner knew what he was talking about.

It’s $31.7M and that’s only pure tier 1 TV money. Other revenue streams should push it closer to 50 or 60.

The old contract was $22M a school for tier 1 TV rights, this is a 45% increase….

Really? I'm usually a doubter and a naysayer, and that's very much what I was expecting.

I think it's basically an extension of the current deal. 50% jump from the 2012-25 average to the 2026-31 average, but a 5% or 10% jump from 2025 to 2026. The distribution between Fox and ESPN is shuffled again--the Fox and ESPN empires have different focuses and needs than they did 10 years ago.

Pretty good to get a raise without OU/UT and replace them with BYU, UC, UH, and UCF. Even with inflation, that’s a W in my opinion.

Well done by Yormark .... that works out to almost $32m a school for the six year period. I don't think a higher number was possible, so IMO he maxed out what he could get.
Definitely puts pressure on the PAC to match that number as well.
Good tidings for the nB12.

$22M was the average for the entire deal starting in 2012. I think they are making $25-28M now and that would seem to be what you need to compare that to. Regardless, much better than initially expected.
I assume all the schools have extended its GOR.

nope- from the article-
current deal, which runs through the 2024-25 season at an annual average of $220M in its final years.

We got a pay increase from the old contract, guess all the posts saying we were going to be making in the low twenties or even high teens for the TOTAL distribution were way off the mark. We will be making in the $50Ms for our total distribution now.

Then the article is wrong, because the big 12s IRS tax forms from a couple of years ago were showing $280 million in TV income.
Or we're misreading the language in the article
EDIT: No, it's not us, it's the article. I think $220M is the average for the life of the contract, not the final years.

RE: Big 12 TV Deal done
What's the conference cut here? (actually asking, I'm not sure)
$31.67 million is the upper bound per team if the conference gets no cut, $29.23 million is if the conference gets an equal share (12 way split vs. 13 way).
So yeah, right at $30 million and not at all different than what rational people were expecting.

It's pretty much only the ACC that reserves a fraction of conference revenues for the league office. Everyone else, the commissioner has a budget that the schools approve (or not I suppose)
2018-19, looks like the Big 12 distributed about $400M, and the conference office spent about $30M. (Part IX, Line 25 Total Functional Expenses $432M minus Line 1, Grants $398M)
