We can be a really good team if we can consistently play like we did in the 2nd half against UGA. This team still has a lot of room to improve too.

The game is on CBS Sports if any of y'all want to check it out. It certainly looks like the C-USA title is UAB's for the taking if the rest of us don't get a whole lot better.

Hopefully we are all doing enough to make a second bid possible. We should win the next three, although South Alabama could be tricky. If we can do that and beat South Carolina and WVU, we will be in as good a shape as we’ve been in years entering conference play.

North Texas took care of Paul Quinn tonight. Paul Quinn is a small program and as expected were no match for the Mean Green. Got to see lots of bench players tonight.

Paul Quinn 46
UNT 76

Final

The UTEP game with Alcorn St went to 2 OT's and the final was 73-61. Alcorn St is a pretty good team with road wins at Wichita St and SFA. I knew they would be a tough out.

With the portal, the SWAC teams are now dangerous. Watched Grambling beat Colorado the other day in a game that wasn't really in danger for them.

I’m starting to think the portal if helping the G5 more than the P5. G5 might lose a star player but pick up 3-4 others that fill holes the best

By the same token, Prairie View A&M (UTSA's opponent) was 3-1 coming into the game, including a 70-59 win over Washington State.

Not getting my hopes up too high for us this year though because I've been let down too many times in the past. But UTSA is definitely better this year than last year so far. And our 7'0" transfer from K-State (Carlton Linguard) hasn't even seen any action yet as he has been in street clothes. Not sure if there's an injury or an eligibility issue, but would sure like to see him get into the mix for us.

I'll be honest, there is a lot of fretting in Liberty land about men's basketball. The team is poorly constructed, from too small of point guards, to no real inside presence, to not enough ball handling scorers. The team has dropped slightly in Kenpom rankings for 3 years in a row. Ritchie McKay is a good coach, but you can only take so many "hustle" guys - at some point you need athletic talent and people that can score. Running your system perfectly won't work if there isn't more talent behind it. At this point, Liberty will be lucky to be .500 in the new CUSA, barring some transfers in.

Latest Bracketology has MTSU getting CUSA AQ at a 15 seed and UAB sitting on the bubble as first 4 out. I guess they’re going based off conference standings instead of team quality at this point, because UAB is about 70 spots higher in Kenpom

Just shows how little they pay attention or care. It's also totally irrelevant at this point of the season.

Agreed. It’s fun to follow and see our name in the conversation this early, but it doesn’t matter. I just want to see them build off the last 2 games. It’s totally cliche, but a bid will take care of itself if this team can play to its potential.

Unimpressed with UNT so far but with WKU, FAU, and UAB all looking hot there is a decent chance CUSA gets multiple bids.
