9/11/2027 and 9/14/2030.

I'll probably be watching from a nursing home.

Thats too bad, we have a great stadium and usually a pretty good atmosphere. Would love to see a lot of Vaquero fans make the trip

RE: UTRGV Football Start Up Thread
Really looking forward to UTRGV entering the football world and expanding the WAC schools' football programs. It will normally take a little time to get up to speed but I think you guys will probably speed up that process a bit. You are a lot closer to us in Abilene, and it is just more fun when you and your opponents can travel to each other's home fields for games. In our case, it is hard to get a larger crowd to games with distant foes with which you share very little in common.

I know we have all grown out of the old days of the Lone Star Conference, but there were some benefits to having historical rivalries, including travel. We often had larger crowds in those days than today if the opponent is several states away. Maybe in time we can develop stronger rivalries.

I look forward to having UTRGV in the UAC as well, but let’s not act like they’re next door neighbors. Abilene is closer to Wichita, KS than it is the the Rio Grande Valley.

True, but it is closer than Chicago and Seattle. I can remember arriving at Texarkana one time on my way to El Paso. The moon was closer.

I thought we were talking about football games?

True... But for rivalries, RGV is closer than a few others and our weather are a bit more similar. I know some farther away schools don't play football.

Edinburg to Abilene is roughly comparable to Austin to Stillwater.

I think Texas has occasionally, albeit with some struggle, made it to Oklahoma State. So it can be done.

Rio Grande Valley Toros just ceased operations. HEB Park appears to be wide open now.

Or is that the plan?

I wondered if they were still trying to split time between HEB and the old Sam's Memorial Stadium in Kingsville? It need's to all be at HEB, WAY better facility.

I completely agree that HEB park is a nicer facility, but there are reasons some games will have to be in Brownsville. (Pretty sure you meant Brownsville.)

Ok guys so the negotiations started a while back for HEB Park and now that was a clear hurdle that potentially stalled HEB Park but here we go.

Yes, sorry, I meant Brownsville and even typed it at one point. Not sure why Kingsville came out. I am aware of the politics for sharing the games, which is stupid. Give the guys ONE home to call their own and defend.

Glad you're back commenting.

By the way, have you been working at the scorer's table some of the recent games? I see a guy sitting there that looks like your podcast picture.

The UTRGV promotional stuff really doubled down on how there's going to be football presence in B'ville.

Having said that, UTRGV has doubled down on saying there will be B'Ville presence on dozens of other things. They give each idea a chance, if students enroll or people show up great, if not it quietly goes back to Edinburg only.

My guess is they'll do Sam's Memorial regardless for several years, after that it depends on whether they can consistently fill the seats. Just a guess.

I just think the team shouldn't be treated like the stepchild of divorced parents in a custody battle. I get how each side has history, but that's not the fault of the athletics programs. It really is hard for a team to build a sense of home when it has to continually go back and forth between parents. I am sure that's the difficulty of having a campus that is spread out, but the truth about each team having one place to call home remains the same. It's up to us as students and alumni to support them, not necessarily the other way around. Yes, teams often go play at neutral sites, but that's not the dynamic I am describing. I say that because I want the UTRGV teams to succeed, including football. I would think that the people could finally settle and agree based on the facility and what's best for the program. Having one off-campus stadium is hard enough. Two is worse... You never really have a home game. ACU played off campus for decades. It worked out OK, but having an on-campus facility is world's better. I can't imagine splitting my time between two off-campus facilities, especially when one of them is as nice as HEB and completely able to fit the needs of UTRGV for now.

More like the child of a shotgun marriage between a Hatfield and a McCoy.

I like your imagery. I was coming up with the basic thing I could from the outside looking in. Either way, I know the players are going to play their hearts out.

UTRGV announced their first group of signings today.

So far Tarleton and newbie West Georgia are the only UAC schools which didn’t announce any signings today. Wonder why?

I did see a Tarleton signee this morning with his post on X but nothing since. He was HS OL 6’6” 330 lb from Ohio.

RE: UTRGV Football Start Up Thread
I am going to give my opinion on this issue....
Number 1: even though negotiations just started as stated by the parties involved... I think it is all said and done. I feel what you see in the media is window dressing.

Number 2: I am more interested in where the licensing for RGVFC ends up because from an initial investment, it was 500K nowadays it costs anywhere from 12 to 15 million alone, which is only the franchise fee today.

My gut feeling is that there will be an official announcement in March 2024 after NSD in February.
