Exclamation 2 Teams From the Same Conference In the Playoff - History
Congratulations to the Big Ten for getting two teams #2 Michigan and #4 Ohio State) into this year's College Football Playoff. It is the 4th time in 9 season that one conference has gotten two teams into the CFP in the same year.

2017: #3 Georgia, #4 Alabama
2020: #2 Clemson, #4 Notre Dame
2021: #1 Alabama, #3 Georgia
2022: #2 Michigan, #4 Ohio State

Now the big difference between the SEC and ACC is in 2017 and 2021 the SEC went 2-0 and in 2020 the ACC went 0-2. As a Big Ten fan, I hope the Big Ten goes 2-0 and not 0-2. Vegas says we'll go 1-1.

SF records by conference:

SEC: 9-1!
ACC: 4-4 (including 2020 Notre Dame, not counting 2018 Notre Dame)
Big Ten: 2-4
Pac 12: 1-1
Big 12: 0-4 (all Oklahoma)
AAC: 0-1

Championships Won:
SEC: 5 (Alabama 2015, 2017, 2020, LSU 2019, Georgia 2021)
ACC: 2 (Clemson 2016, 2018)
Big Ten: 1 (Ohio State 2014)

Most Finals:
Alabama: 6 (2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2020, 2021)
Clemson: 4 (2015, 2016, 2018, 2019)
Georgia: 2 (2017, 2021)
Ohio State: 2 (2014, 2020)
One: Oregon (2014), LSU (2019)

Most Appearances:
Alabama: 7 (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2020, 2021)
Clemson: 6 (2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020)
Ohio State: 5 (2014, 2016, 2019, 2020, 2022)
Oklahoma: 4 (2015, 2017, 2018, 2019)
Georgia: 3 (2017, 2021, 2022)

I think 2017 was a fake champion in Alabama who did not deserved to be in there. UCF should have given that spot since they went unbeaten. Alabama lost to Auburn and Auburn lost to UCF in the bowl.

Alabama had one loss that season though, not 2. UCF would have lost 5 games that year with bama's schedule. Or have you forgotten that Scott Frost was exposed at Nebraska when he faced better coaches with similar talent?

NO WAY TPTB (read: ESPN) allows UCF to sully their product. They learned their lesson from UC.

LOL ..... Michigan is around a 10 point favorite to beat TCU.

I would bet that Alabama would have been around a 5 point favorite over Michigan.

IMO the Hive Mind knows that the CFP vastly overvalued TCU's big pile of B12 wins.

(snip)

Unlike the SEC last year, which was probably the best conference overall, the B1G is weak this year, the fourth best conference ahead of only the terrible ACC.

IMO, that helped the B1G get two teams in, as their two best teams were able to dominate against the weak conference competition.

The ACC was also very weak in 2020, when ND and Clemson made it, and they both lost.

FWIW, I think the B1G will go at least 1-1 and possibly 2-0. OSU and Michigan should be playing each other, instead Michigan gets to beat up TCU while Ohio State is a very dangerous opponent for Georgia.

Just MO.

UCF was the better team. That 2017 team would put 60 on last year's Cincinnati team. The only reason Cincinnati got in was they were in a former power conference which gave then more favor than UCF.

TPTB: The Powers That Be. I find it HILARIOUSLY ADORABLE you guys think the G5 will EVER be treated fairly EVER AGAIN! They learned their lesson with Cincinnati.

Remember: The CFP was NEVER intended to crown a champion, it was intended to make the Big Boys $$$

Hasn't UCF been in that same "former" Power Conference.

Serious question(s). Are you saying UCF would not have made it in the past because of what happened with Cincinnati last season? Or that they would not be allowed in today as an at-large if there the 12-team playoff was in place now? The wording makes it sound like a past decision was affected by a future situation.

They didn’t let UCF in and what happened to Cincinnati vindicated that decision.

Nobody made any kind of argument for UCF that year until they beat Auburn. UCF was taken about as seriously as the previous year’s Western Michigan team.

The real controversy that year was Alabama making the playoffs ahead of Ohio State. Auburn fans also argued they should have been selected to the playoffs ahead of Alabama, but nobody in the media seemed to listen to us.

You were a three loss team! You beating Auburn was more of an argument Alabama didn't belong than Auburn belonged.

The argument was that we belonged ahead of Alabama because Auburn played Georgia twice and Clemson once, and Alabama hadn’t played any of those types of teams. And of course we beat Alabama head to head.

The media paid no attention to our argument, and it was mainly just an argument that we belonged ahead of Alabama. If Ohio State had been selected as the #4 team, no Auburn fan would have cared.
