Can somebody remind me why this stupid loophole wasn't closed almost two years ago, when the WAC first started talking about using it?

More expansion expected

Quote:The agreement includes the goal to "immediately explore expansion opportunities," sources said. League officials have begun early conversations with at least four other high-profile FCS football programs, sources said.

Why not re-combine with Conference USA to free up the geography? Seems like a more sensible move.

Since they are only talking about football, travel doesn't matter much. So I bet the are looking at the Dakotas..

If G5 offers little more positives (if not more negatives) than FCS, than why the hell are so many teams jumping to G5 lately?

Should be fun! I hope it's more than a rumor.

Expanded CFP maybe?

This would be a nightmare. The WAC stadiums all have a capacity of about 5,000. Some people claim they're one of the worst conferences in FCS.

This will seem fun to you until it causes teams to leave the NCAA and leave WMU behind.

I have a feeling this is just posturing by the leagues due to pressure from the member schools. Tarleton was actively selling the move to D1 as far back as 2008. I know because I went on a tour and they were touting that they would move up "soon". The WACSUN schools have probably been trying to sell "FBS" to recruits for the past 2 years and need the league to at least look like they're trying to move to FBS because they can only pitch FBS for so long with nothing to show for it.

I wonder how it will be set up on paper.

Will the WAC try to sponsor FBS football with 6 full members and 4 affiliates

or are they trying to create a brand new single sport conference with WAC and ASun members. Like an FBS version of the MVFC

If its the former, the "WAC loophole" would come into play, although under current rules they would need 2 more full members

If its the latter, they are trying to do something that is specifically not allowed under current rules.

The ESPN article indicates its the latter

Not sure but as a fan of a former FCS team it's really hard to be an FCS fan and have to explain what FCS even is to people because no one knows it exists.

The Liberty lawsuit basically tossed out any NCAA rules that would stand against schools moving up. If the NCAA objects, it would just bring 10 more lawsuits that it would lose..

If the playoffs are open "to the top 6 champions", then this makes sense.

I'm usually fine with FCS schools moving up, but this is a little much. This would mean 17 FBS schools in Texas, 7 in Alabama, and 5 in Utah.

Lots of P5 fans call FCS D2. I know a guy that went to SFA (BS and Masters) but is a UT fan and he refers to SFA as D2.

None of these schools are really ready to move up to FBS. The only schools that the NCAA should accept moving up to FBS are:

North Dakota State
South Dakota State
North Dakota
South Dakota
Montana
Montana State
Delaware
Missouri State
Illinois State

And maybe a handful more.
