The stadium lights got upgraded to LEDs too much like the AUBC lights. Driving by at night and seeing the place washed out in purple looks very cool

There hasn’t been an official picture yet but here’s a look at the new expansion to the stadium. Happy to have the SBC on the backstop. Here’s to hopefully a successful first campaign in a great conference.

It's actually at 10am, but the weather in Charleston this weekend looks lawful. Praying for at least one game.

Down 4-1 in the 5th. Chattanooga has bases loaded with 1 out.

Don't want to extrapolate out but this is not the most inspiring start to the season, we've only had two hits through 5, down 1-4

Pitching is struggling today. She allowed a 2 run HR in the first and a 1 run HR in the 4th.
At this moment in the 5th, Berry came in and walked 3 batters.

Not a great start for pitching in the 2023 season, that's for sure. Good news is that this is just the first game and hopefully they can fix some things.

Berry walked 3 of her first 5 batters in the bottom of the 5th when she came in to relieve Humphreys. However, she ended up settling in and only gave up 1 run despite bases loaded with 1 out.

Berry is in now in the 5th. Humprey started and gave up 3 earned runs in 4 innings. She gave up 6 hits, 0 walks, had 2 wild pitches and struck out 9.
Berry got out of the jam she herself created. Gave up 1 hit, 3 walks and 1 earned run.
Dukes down 4-1 batting in the top of the 6th. Not the start we were hoping for.

Made it interesting in the 7th but not enough to come back.

At least they didn't give up, so that could be a good sign of this team's character.

This is a game that we would’ve won by run rule in the past. Disappointing start to the season.

I know it’s only the first game, but it counts. The other team did better. It’s early in the year for mighty Chattanooga too. (Maybe they are a juggernaut in softball; I don’t know). We had some great years, but that’s long in the past. Could it be we are simply a mediocre, middle of the road softball team and program now. I know that’s not a popular take that will bring hate… but, am I wrong?

I agree; it’s too early to make a judgment. However, these early games like this are important for us mid-majors. Furthermore, with COVID, no tournament, and the obvious tragedy last year we have legit excuses. At some point though results are what they are- but I agree, it’s too early to say we’re at that point

I'm getting the same vibes right now as I did with the start of last season, underwhelming starting tournament against not very good midmajor teams.

It's clear that Humphreys is not that power pitcher that you can bring into the circle and have her overwhelm teams like Ford, Good, and Alexander. Good stuff but just not a power pitcher.

Last year it was subpar pitching and an offense that could get going against average midmajors but absolutely sputtered against mid and bottom level P5 programs. I don't think we will be rule-ruling anyone decent this year. Again, certainly not doom for the rest of the season but the start feels similar. Thank goodness we were not invited to St. Pete's again.

We started 4-9 before finally getting to the Burg last year. This year we play a more favorable schedule this time around, I hope it's just opening day jitters.
