Will NMSU men's basketball win a conference game?
As an Aggie fan, this has been a hard season to watch.

0-9 right now. They looked better against UVU but not great at all.

Here is who is left
vs SFA 7-2
vs Seattle 7-2
@ GCU 5-4
@ CBU 5-4
vs ACU 3-6
vs UTRGV 2-7
vs GCU 5-4
@ ACU 3-6
@ Tarleton 5-4

It is hard to see how far the team has fallen in one season.

If you don’t beat UTRGV at home, then it’s a wrap

Yup. Many bad things have happened to Heiar, but that would be the ultimate depth of the abyss, the most abject of all possible humiliations, the one thing no AD could possibly forgive.

I feel you. Ironically enough, our lone bright spot was the win in Las Cruces.

My wife is planning a date night Saturday. Suggested we see UTA play Sam. I was like, are you sure you want that for a date...?

Will NMSU fire Heiar--- after just one year?? Especially if things continue terribly?

Buyout steep?

For NMSU it's steep. There is $1.2 Million left on his contract. Unless there are extenuating circumstances this season that conflict with his contract agreement, I doubt NMSU will fire Heiar after just one season. I suspect, Heiar will be given at least one more season, maybe two, to correct the deficiencies within his program and the results on the court. It's just my opinion.

Could these "circumstances" be "fuzzy" enough for a compromise on the buyout? An 8-22 finish along with a cloud over the program... How bad is it?

In other words-- a "no fault settlement" that both sides can live with?

Unless GH really wants to get out of Dodge or Las Cruces so to speak, I don't think GH wants to this season to be the final word on his D1 coaching resumé. At least not without a chance to right the ship. And although this season has been horrendous, his team is not without talent. He has been doing well recruiting thus far. He has (hopefully still) a top prep 4-star guard out of California signed to come in next season. Plus, the top HS player in the State of New Mexico is currently committed to play for NMSU in 2024.

If GH remains at NMSU, obviously there will need to be changes within the program. Aggie fans will not tolerate another bad season back-to-back.

The teams above us with 2 league wins, UTU, RGV, and UTA still have a couple games left against each other that someone will have to win. That could put any, or all of them with 3 league wins, and I don’t see 4 games we will win as things stand in LC. It’s just about too late to not finish in last even if we do pick up a couple victories.

I like your support, but we play UTRGV at their place, then host UTU. We have only one DI home win, so hosting doesn't mean anything.

NMSU would probably need to win five of the last nine games in order to not finish in the cellar of the WAC.

Well regularly I would say that that you would have a decent chance at a few wins. But because of the situation with the team, and with you leaving, it is everyone's last shot at you as conference foe's so everyone will be eager to beat you. I would be surprised if you could pull off enough wins to escape last place. I am wondering how many players actually stay after this year. I imagine at least some of the starters will hit the portal.

No, Chicago State, CSU-Baskersfield, Azusa Pacific and UMKC are no longer in the WAC.

Bako was at the top of the WAC for many years. Beat NMSU in the WAC championship one year on a buzzer beater over Pascal Siakam. May want to check your WAC facts before popping off.

Only top 12 (of 13) make the WAC tournament, right? Wouldn't that be a kick in the junk if they did finish last and not even make it to Vegas in the final season? Hoping that doesn't happen.

Well, this is only my opinion, but unless NMSU can somehow string together a number of wins to gain momentum, I really don't care if they make one last run in the WAC tournament. NMSU has dominated the WAC for over a decade. With the numbers of coaching changes NMSU has had to go through (5 in 18 years) since first joining the WAC, it was only a matter of time that we would finally stumble on one of these coaching transitions. I still have hopes GH will figure it out. But it looks like that will now need to happen in C-USA.

Yawn. No sniveling! Tarleton sending nmsu off to a perpetual life of mediocrity with a big fat "L" inside Wisdom Gym for their final WAC game is what will really make this a season to remember. I for one would like to personally thank the Commish for allowing TARLETON the distinct honor and privledge of being the final WAC team nmsu faces. It's like it was meant to be!
