Texas & OU reach agreement to leave big 12 in 2024, potential AAC impact

OU/UT are leaving a year early

making a thread on this because Mack Rhoades Baylor AD/head of BIG 12 Expansion spoke on something earlier

he noted the big 12 deal expands to 14 max, that is why they only added a certain number and also why they might reconsider adding member in 2025 (when texas and OU left) with 2 spots up for potential 14

now the big 12 can start looking early if they do plan a 2nd expansion

and the timing of this is sketch at best... the pac 12 announces they are looking to expand, and a day later the big 12 has room to expand...what are chances they undercut sdsu and smu? or target pac 12?

B12 is going to scoop up SDSU and some combination of the 4 corner schools and put the PAC out of their misery.

The Big 12 is not picking up any more G5 schools. They will make a hard play for the 4Cs now

I've mentioned it many times... BIG XII should Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, and Utah.

No Pac 12 school is leaving for the Big 12. That's a lateral move at best.

They'd have to want to join the B12. They don't.

The 4 corner schools are ready to bail. Current negotiations with Amazon are depressing, last report I saw yesterday was that Pac12 can't get a deal that even reaches what the Big 12 currently has and the schools are getting fed up.

Utah gets to reunite with BYU. Colorado has to do the walk of shame but it would still be a homecoming for them. Arizona lost two of the biggest rivals in UCLA/USC and would rather join the best basketball conference in college. Oregon is the only other team Arizona cares about with basketball and they are a ticking bomb before leaving the Pac12 too. Arizona State will 100% follow Arizona.

On top of that, SMU and SDSU expansion requires a 75% approval vote by the Pac12 schools. That vote should be soon. Idk how it gets passed with the TV deal still in limbo.

I will happily eat crow here if I'm wrong, but everything the past two days has been pointing towards the Pac12 blowing up. Schools are sick of the mess UCLA/USC left them in.

are we? they cant even raid te big 12...

the strk contrast a year made for them is crazy.. they went from every big 12 essentially begging for an invite to no one in the big12 even remotely considering

but side note is how dick-ish ucla/usc were.. they could have done deals in the background and told the pac 12 to raid the big 12 in the foreground

The worst part is that USC was the school leading the charge in not allowing the Big12 schools to join. The same time that they were secretly planning with Big10. They are a different breed.

How so lateral? Reports getting leaked from an anonymous PAC AD basically are saying that talks are not moving and even with a heavy streaming component, they may not even reach the Big 12 money.

So let's see...... less money and less exposure .......with no exit fee to join better exposure, better money, and better basketball.

Care to revise your outlook on the move?

Maybe some have suddenly become protective of negative PAC news due to a commissioner visiting the SMU campus 05-stirthepot

Not all that different. Texas and OU were attending Big XII strategy meetings while secretly negotiating with the SEC.
