That massacre, in large part, is what lead us the current state of events in Ukraine.
The events in Odessa happened on May 2, 2014. The first referendums in Donbas occurred on May 14, 2014.
The whole issue started after the US backed coup which ousted the president they all voted for fair and square.
Don’t believe it was a fair election? Perhaps the media worldwide got it wrong? Perhaps US best friend, ally, and NATO member had a media that was wrong about this and was just reporting Russian propaganda? Go ahead, see for your self.
Here’s a quote from the article below about Ukraines state of democracy in 2014, before the coup.
“The Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) said there were no indications of serious fraud and described the vote as an "impressive display" of democracy. "For everyone in Ukraine this election was a victory," João Soares, president of the OSCE's parliamentary assembly, said.”

It was then, after the coup, that the move to separate from Ukraine picked up steam. After the Azov Battalion Nazis attacked and chased dozens of Russian speaking Ukrainians into the Trade Unions building in Odessa, which was then set on fire. 42 ethnic Russians were then burned alive. There had been scuffles in different cities, but mostly soccer fan type brawls Nothing like this. This was the turning point of the entire coup/invasion timeline.
That was long before anything happened in Crimea. Might explain why the Crimeans voted to GTF out of Ukraine as soon as possible. The Trade Union fire event took place just a few weeks before the referendums in Dontesk and Luhansk. Don’t believe me? Check the dates for yourself. Unless you think the calendars everywhere have been switched at Putins request. Please, I encourage everyone to verify it.
Of course, there is always a chance the US ally and NATO member Germany’s state run media is simply Russian propaganda.
This is what Germanys largest media outlet reported at the time. Go ahead and see for yourself what they said in the aftermath.
