Battle of Athens, 1946
Don’t know how I made it 58 years and never heard of this. I’m sure the posters from Tennessee know about it, but maybe not everybody else. Talk about iron clad proof of the need for the 2nd Amendment as intended by the founders.

Edit - this is just a short account. If interested, there are some really detailed accounts out there.

Check out the Phoenix City Story. Albert Patterson was elected Attorney General of Alabama and was dedicated to cleaning up the corruption in Phoenix City, Alabama, which is just across the bridge from Columbus, Georgia. For his efforts in attempting to clean up illegal gambling, prostitution, and other organized crime he was gunned down outside of his law office. His son John Patterson was elected Governor in Alabama in the early 60's for his efforts to rile the state of Alabama to send in the national guard. Interesting times. John was a Navy Veteran and I know him personally, though not for 40 years.

But to your point, when law enforcement becomes corrupt the 2nd amendment and honest men and women are your last line of defense. Bootleggers and local Sheriffs are one thing, but Corporate agendas and a corrupt FBI is quite another.

Yeah, times have changed.

Thanks for that interesting tidbit. I had no idea anything like that occurred here.

The Battle of Blair Mountain

To the gaggle of reporters who met Mitchell upon his arrival, the general was quite clear about his intentions. “We wouldn’t try to kill these people at first,” Mitchell said. “We’d drop tear gas all over the place. If they refuse to disburse, then we’d open up with artillery and everything.”

The use of air power by the United States Army during the West Virginia Mine Wars still stands as the only time that American military aircraft were used during a domestic civil disturbance.
