New SEC Schedule Format
Soon we will hear about the 2024 one-off schedule, but there's still much debate about what the future will hold for the SEC scheduling format moving forward. I propose the following schedule, with 4 geographical pods of 4, 3 permanent crossover opponents (1 from each of the other pods), & playing another team from each of the other pods (3+3+1+1+1) for a 9 game schedule:
Pods:
East - Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee
Southeast - Alabama, Auburn, Kentucky, Vanderbilt
Southwest - LSU, Mississippi State, Missouri, Ole Miss
West - Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A&M
Permanent Crossovers (Pod):
Alabama - Tennessee (E), Texas A&M (W), LSU (SW)
Arkansas - LSU (SW), Vanderbilt (SE), South Carolina (E)
Auburn - Georgia (E), Texas (W), Missouri (SW)
Florida - Kentucky (SE), LSU (SW), Oklahoma (W)
Georgia - Auburn (SE), Mississippi State (SW), Texas A&M (W)
Kentucky - Florida (E), Oklahoma (W), Mississippi State (SW)
LSU - Arkansas (W), Florida (E), Alabama (SE)
Mississippi State - Texas A&M (W), Georgia (E), Kentucky (SE)
Missouri - Oklahoma (W), South Carolina (E), Auburn (SE)
Oklahoma - Missouri (SW), Kentucky (SE), Florida (E)
Ole Miss - Texas (W), Tennessee (E), Vanderbilt (SE)
South Carolina - Vanderbilt (SE), Missouri (SW), Arkansas (W)
Tennessee - Alabama (SE), Ole Miss (SW), Texas (W)
Texas - Ole Miss (SW), Auburn (SE), Tennessee (E)
Texas A&M - Mississippi State (SW), Alabama (SE), Georgia (E)
Vanderbilt - South Carolina (E), Arkansas (W), Ole Miss (SW)
Example schedule for Florida would be:
'25 - UGA (Jax), @SC, TN, @UK, LSU, @OU, Bama, @Miss. St., Ark.
'26 - UGA (Jax), SC, @TN, UK, @LSU, OU, @AU, Mizz, @Texas
'27 - UGA (Jax), @SC, TN, @UK, LSU, @OU, Vandy, @Ole Miss, TAMU
'28 - UGA (Jax), SC, @TN, UK, @LSU, OU, @Bama, Miss. St., @Ark.
'29 - UGA (Jax), @SC, TN, @UK, LSU, @OU, @AU, @Mizz, Texas
'30 - UGA (Jax), SC, @TN, UK, @LSU, OU, @Vandy, Ole Miss, @TAMU
Then repeat, until/unless the conference expands again.
Following this format, every team would play one another at minimum once every 3 years, & travel throughout the entire conference.
The conference championship would be a matchup of the top two teams regardless of pod, & tiebreakers would be head-to-head first, then record against own pod, then record against opponent's pod, then lowest points allowed in conference play.
