Rendon's back on IL
https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/3788...-contusion

Alden Gonzalez/ESPN Wrote:The Los Angeles Angels placed third baseman Anthony Rendon on the injured list with a left wrist contusion Monday, four days after suffering the injury after being hit by a pitch. ...

Rendon was plunked by Texas Rangers starter Nathan Eovaldi in the first inning on Thursday but remained in the game -- despite not being able to swing the bat -- because Urshela exited shortly thereafter and the Angels would have been short-handed. Initial X-rays on Rendon's wrist came back negative, but continued swelling kept him out of the lineup for the ensuing three days in Kansas City.

Rendon, 33, has played in 143 of a potential 398 games since the start of 2021, slashing only .238/.338/.364 during that stretch. Rendon was a .290/.372/.490 hitter in his previous eight years in the big leagues.

RE: Rendon's back on IL
Frustrating year for Rendon. Started off on the wrong foot with the unnecessary scuffle with a fan. His confidence hasn't been there. Hopefully he can recover and get on a one of those red hot streaks he used to have. If the Angels make the playoffs and he's healthy, it can become a whole new season for him.

Boo hoo! Just because he decides to pay for a crap organization like the Angels are we supposed to feel sorry?

He had a chance to go to Texas. I felt at the time that was a much better fit. He is one injury away from being released.

Not sure what the gripe here is. So, he puts his family and faith ahead of baseball. I applaud that and I'm not even the most faithful around. Seems like a really poorly written article and possible smear piece based on the way it's written.

I didn't get the impression he was complaining. Like a lot of us, he puts other things in life ahead of his job and works to live instead of living to work. Nothing wrong with that IMO.

My son has a broken Rendon bat we won at an auction awhile back. No one has asked me to auction off old thumb drives of mine or other work trash of mine. He has to be mindful of how special being a MLB player is.

Regardless of how special it is, I still wouldn't put it ahead of my family. Sounds like he has his priorities pretty straight if you ask me. He did say that baseball was a priority, just not his first one.

I think the comments take on a different air when you miss 70% of your team's games due to injury, hit .250 in the ones that you do play in and get suspended for an altercation with a fan. If he was still an All-Star, then this is a non-story.

I think this may be the original story, picked up by others ... an interview with Sam Blum, the former Dallas Morning News sports writer who currently covers the Angels for The Athletic:

And here's a link to Blum's longer article in The Athletic (subscription may be required): https://theathletic.com/5286090/2024/02/...-comments/

I tend to agree with "The Commish": "This is such a bad look." He needs to have (and/or follow) better PR advice.

RE: Rendon's back on IL
Professional sports isn't something you "just make a living" at. There are millions of people who can only dream about being able to have this level of talent, and thousands with the talent that didn't get the break due to injury or other issues. Those that get there have a bigger obligation to the game they play. Does Lebron James, JJ Watt, Tom Brady or Derek Jeter think that what they do/did was "just a living"? When you're paid $247 million for your talents you had better be a bit more dialed in. Once you can't play anymore or choose to walk away like Andrew Luck, then you can be that regular guy.
