A UAB fan (notnow) asked in the FB poll: "What about basketball? Do the Legacy teams look forward to playing a final four team and both of the NIT finalists along with teams they have a rich history with?"

Therefore, I constructed a poll dedicated just to basketball.

Do legacy AAC fans look forward to playing CUSA6 schools more than the departed schools in basketball?

Yes
No

I will periodically report and tally valid votes from legacy AAC fans.

I voted no because Houston and Cincy are traditional rivals with good teams (especially lately).

FWIW, I do look forward to playing UAB (a traditional rival) and FAU next season.

Basketball will be very fun to watch. You have the known consistent good teams and from what I’ve seen just sprinkled in the news, some of the teams previously toward the bottom of the AAC have had some great transfer classes

Been looking forward to playing Rice. That game should be nice.

One could argue even with the loss of Houston this league got better in this sport with the additions. I look forward to it!

I will miss paying Houston because WSU generally played them pretty close and it was always fun to play a top 10 team.

Mixed emotions for Cincy because neither of our teams have been the same since Cronin and Marshall left.

UCF's court is ugly and they have minimal fan support so they can kick rocks - even though we played a lot of close games against them.

-------------------------------------------------------

I look forward to playing all of the CUSA6, but especially look forward to North Texas, UAB, and FAU of course. Charlotte has been pretty mediocre, but I think they can get things going under the right coach. UTSA and Rice need some serious changes to be relevant, although Rice does have a nice roster this year.

I think we should do one for air rifle.

Memphis is in the Top 20 nationally. Of course, there are only 22 D1 teams in the country, lol.

no simply because Cincy and Houston are long time rivals of Memphis with great hoops tradition.

Edit: I'm excited to see UAB in the conf too...AKs Blazer's will most likely give us fits (as always)

I think that most Blazer fans would tell you that they want to beat Memphis more than anyone else in the conference. Southern Miss would be our other big traditional rival, but they won't be on the schedule much. We're Memphis' daddy in football, and they've pretty much owned us in hoops. We want the Bones back. Andy Kennedy has turned things up, brought toughness and intensity as well and recruiting better players.

AK has 78 wins in his first three seasons as UAB's coach. If you pull up a list of MBB coaches records in their first three years in a job, you'll find maybe five or six that can even approach that.

There's a fine rivalry brewing with UTSA in football for certain.

There are also a bunch of teams who were in C-USA with us back in the day who have talked a lot of smack. We'll enjoy every win against them until it becomes routine. This isn't the same UAB who got left behind.

I'm looking forward to a better and more challenging schedule in the AAC.

Houston, Cincinnati, and Louisville - all gone.

These are irreplaceable rivalry games. Sure, we will play games - we will have a full schedule but you can't create instant history. It takes decades to create a rival not just a few close games with the paid homer announcers talking about a 'budding' rivalry. That's just fake and contrived.

Personally, I can name a dozen out of conference schools that move the needle more than any team in the new AAC. Even ECU and Tulane which are probably the two teams left that we have the most history with. SMU might develop into something over the next 15-20 years but I think they will be plucked by the PAC very soon.

UAB simply does not interest me. They may beat us in every sport every time we play but it's just not a long standing historical rivalry.

FAU har a great year in bb but we've played them 1 time? How long will they be good before their coach moves up and they sink back to mediocrity?

Between the NIL bs, CUSA back in the day and now the AAC getting raided and 3 of the top 4 schools leaving, the massive, ever growing TV money gap, and college revenue sports basically becoming minor league product - I care waaaay less than I used to.

RE: BB - do you look playing CUSA6 > Departed Schools? (3 Y / 8 N - validated)
Honestly, I don't like to lose to schools that I have a "perception" that we should beat. I have a perception that we should beat schools from the other G5 conferences & traditionally low performing P5 schools because the AAC has generally performed well against other G5 conferences, locked up the NY6 bowl, etc. in FB & performed even better in MBB. But perception isn't always reality. Memphis is predicted to finish 3rd in the AAC in FB as I recall by AAC coaches but I think ahead of all the CUSA schools (but we did lose to UTSA last season blowing a big lead). And we did lose to FAU in the NCAA. And these typed of losses hurt my perception of would should happen - so I don't like it.

That's my way of saying I will be disappointed to lose to any of the incoming schools - but it will happen & it should then foster some new rivalries.
