RE: Phil Steele CUSA Predictions
We seem to have our best years when we’re not expected to do much. Last two seasons have been tough after a string of seven bowls going 6-1 in those games. The loss was in 2020 and we really weren’t great that year either. We need a good season this year to get our program back on track.

Well he thinks WKU finishes 45th in the country, only other CUSA Team listed in top 60 was UTEP 56th. Picked up mag this weekend, good read but its going to be near impossible to pick 2-9 this year in CUSA. Even though WKU has really big questions on defense, offense should be good to go. On paper OL looked sketchy, but we have some experience guys who got hurt back and all have had PT. Phil is really high on MTSU defense, offense not so much. Liberty seems a big question mark, not understanding the UTEP love, but they also must be returning a lot of experience and someone has to be picked 2nd.

If we finish 5th in CUSA, it will be an epic disaster in Lynchburg. Clearly Phil is not impressed with Coach Chadwell & staff and the massive turnover in defensive personnel. Terrific. I hope that the rest of CUSA discounts that farflung bunch of religious zealots. Pay no attention to them at all.

He is spot on with MTSU. Should have a good D but the O, specifically O-Line, is a major question mark. We will go as far as the line takes us. We’ve got some decent skill players and I think Nick, our QB, will be better than a lot of people think.

Bad OLine play will make it hard to know what you really have in a QB unless they are a scrambler (one of the reasons UTSA always gave us fits was because we could flush Harris out of the pocket but rarely bring him down). Hopefully MTSU can figure it out against everyone not named WKU.

I liked Nick in his MVP Bahamas Bowl appearance. But, after watching the OL play last year like a "sieve"; I have grave concerns for his long term health. Chase had to run for his life. So, let's see whether Nick is still upright after facing Bama and Mizzou in games 1 and 2. If so, that means the OL is improved and Nick may shine!

I agree about undervaluing The Flames. I have followed Chadwell's career for a while now and Liberty will be good, no matter roster turnover or schematic changes. Chadwell maybe does more with less than any coach in America.
