I don't understand the notion of having to maintain a positive birth rate either. There comes the time when enough is enough. I've never been to India or China but I've seen enough on the Amazing Race to know I don't want to live in a cesspool with raw sewage on the street and air you could cut with a knife. "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses..." might have sounded good 300 years and 300 million people ago, but a lot has changed since then. There's enough plastic and fecal matter in the rivers and lakes. We don't need another 60 million by 2050.
