This guy was a beast last night for the DR. We've got some grown men the team this year. I've got to rewatch the game. I didn't know he was on the other team. lol

What did you guys think of Walton last season?

Steady player on both ends of the floor. Shoots the ball well from deep, can finish around the rim, and doesn't make many mistakes. He'll likely be the 3rd or 4th option when he's on the floor for Memphis, but he isn't the kind of player who needs a lot of touches to be effective.

He burned some bridges with our fanbase when he left by posting a dumb goodbye message. I believe he said: "Idgaf who don't like m decision it's mines..."

That was a strange message. Perhaps he was experiencing a lot of negativity with leaving. I know I've said plenty of dumb things in my life. Hopefully I'm not judged too harshly for my transgressions.

Regarding his play, he was a bit rough around the edges at times, but I suspect he hasn't had much time in the gym after the fiasco in Tuscaloosa. He definitely showed flashes of his potential and did great considering he's only had four workouts and zero "real" practices with the team prior to that game.

Extremely talented .... mental aspect is questionable. He had some extremely bad body language at times throughout the year when he wasn't getting involved. Then the way he left WSU and everything that happened this summer really enforced my concerns.

I hope he can hold the course. Memphis is stacked and he could very well end up our sixth man, all things considered.

Yeah, he was a stud. I eventually figured out that I needed to pay attention to #33 in the red shoes.

Yeah I can't speak for our fanbase but I don't begrudge him for leaving and hope he does well at Memphis (just not against WSU). I agree that he looked a little jittery last night but that should improve as the team gels.

Quinerly and "Celeb" Mills certainly looked good in the backcourt. I was also impressed by what I saw from Cherenfant.

We have two more games. One Friday and one Sunday. But they are against much lesser competition. This was a pro-level team getting ready for the World Cup.

The next two will be local players, not the national team that is world ranked.

Hell, last night was so big they had an 8300+ seat sellout, and local celebrities were there, including David Ortiz (Big Papi). And we had over 35,000 fans online during the game.

I agree about how important this trip is. We lucked out with the right year to have it. Especially since we have exactly one returning player, the coach's older son.

Yeah, lots of upside to the team this year. I genuinely feel that it's the best squad under Penny yet. To be so competitive against a hardened and cohesive team in their first game together was encouraging.

I'm looking forward to the Shockers regaining their place in the AAC pecking order. As a person, I genuinely liked Coach Brown, but he just couldn't get it done. You guys had enough talent to make more noise than you did, and it was disappointing. How are you feeling about your chances this year?

Most Memphis fans seem to think this is a S16 team without DeAndre, and he would push them higher. I need to see more, but we have one helluva roster right now, especially when Jones shows up later this month.

Jones is waiting for his grade to be recorded for his last missing class he just completed, and he is getting his visa processed, since he lives in the Dominican.

When you watch, just look at the second half. He didn't play until then, and only 12 minutes. He almost dominated the game while he was on the floor.

Quinones and Jones were easily the two best players for either team last night.

Yeah, when Jones shows up, Walton almost certainly won't be a starter. It's likely going to be Brown, DeAndre or Jourdain (depending on DeAndre's waiver), Jones, Mills and Quinerly.

Walton would likely be the first wing/guard off the bench. I hope he can mentally handle that role.

Actually, they had a local water bottle tossing contest at halftime. Penny came out of the locker room, and was the celebrity judge.

It's hard to quantify, but my primary hope/expectation is that this year's team starts building some positive momentum for the program. In more concrete terms, I'm hoping they finish in the top half of the AAC and show marked improvement as the season progresses. NIT is probably the absolute best outcome unless there are some major contributions from unlikely sources. Recruiting under Paul Mills has been a bit of a mixed bag so far.

Our biggest question mark is at PG, where Bijan Cortes (Oklahoma transfer) is the only natural PG on the roster. We just filled our final scholarship with a stretch 4 from Missouri State (after weeks of searching for a backup PG), so it sounds like Cortes will carry the load and our other guards will spell him as needed.

We should see an improvement in player development, as well as in the Xs and Os department, with the transition from Isaac Brown to Paul Mills.

They were. Lester had 30. Jones had 12 in 12 minutes. They were the difference in the game. Ironic, lol.

If our team can move forward from how we played in the second half (we looked like a completely different team), we will be a badass handful.

Wichita State needs the men's basketball to be good with all the realignment going on... Hoping we don't get left behind if other AAC schools get poached, but I'm not sure who would want us as WSU's best conference fit at the moment is likely the American.

Yeah I thought the same thing. We're playing Murderer's Row to start the season, so this should help a lot.
