The PAC: Requiem for a Meme
Well as many "12anon" posters on this board had predicted, it is finally done. The PAC is dead. The PAC is the 2nd of the major conferences to meet its demise with the Big East being the 1st. There are still some loose ends to shore up to be sure (i.e. Stanford and Cal) but I think we can safely predict that the PAC will officially lose Power status after the next CFP negotiation, if not sooner from the media.

Now where do we go from here? We now have a P4, or I guess more accurately a P2 and M2. I think G5/G6 realignment will be in full swing but the P4 is probably done until the 2030s.

There are a lot of potential major dominos that are worth tracking.

#1. The next Notre Dame TV deal: Will ND be able to drastically reduce the money gap between them and the B1G/SEC? If they can't will they join the B1G along with Stanford?

#2. FSU breaking the ACC GOR: FSU is fighting tooth and nail for a way out of the ACC. I don't see how they are able to do this sometime in this decade but clearly, they are gone at the first opportunity.

#3. The CFP negotiations: How many auto-bids will remain (if any) during the next negotiation? Can the Big 12 and ACC become consistent multiple-bid leagues or will the B1G and SEC completely dominate the CFP?

#4. Big 12 vs ACC: This is the next battle for survival between the major conferences. Can the new Big 12 eclipse the ACC in performance and revenue over the next decade? Who will be in a better position to survive once the ACC GOR expires?

#5. Last tickets to the S2: I think it's almost a foregone conclusion that the B1G and SEC will eventually expand to at least 20 teams meaning there are probably 6 spots left. Who is going to claim them over the next decade?

#6. Linear versus Streaming: What will happen to the future of cable and college athletics? Will new players like Apple, Amazon, and Google supplant ESPN and FOX as the new drivers behind realignment?

#7. NIL versus a CBA: When will the farce of NIL end and college athletes unionize to form a players union? Will the non-profit status end? What happens to Title IX and non-revenue sports if CFB and MBB players become employees versus student-athletes?

#8. End of the NCAA-owned March Madness: Will the NCAA tournament split from the NCAA and form a new company a la the CFP?

There are still soooo many things to track and speculate on. This board should have plenty to talk about over the next decade.
