Price cap? What price cap? Nobody cares what the West invented as a price cap.

Lol. Up by volume....but actual Russian oil and gas revenue is down almost 50%....which is what really matters. Sure—Russia can sell their oil as long as it’s $20 or $30 less a barrel than the world price and the buyer is willing to jump through a ton of shipping hoops to get it delivered. As for gas—because you need pressurized hard pipe infrastructure from wellhead to end user—-moving to a new customer base is a much more difficult, costly, time consuming process. The LNG alternative is not really available because Russia has little to no LNG capability---thus, Russian natural gas income is going to be crippled for a while.

If only they would borrow $34 trillion, they could look richer too.

Or maybe just not invade your neighbors and continue to grow richer using the mutually beneficial trading relationship that was working well for everyone. Just sayin....04-cheers

Even CNN has been forced to admit that Russian trade with China is absolutely soaring.

https://www.cnn.com/2023/06/07/business/...index.html

Europe can keep paying extremely high energy prices for LNG imports from thousands of miles away, but their economies remain in the tank just like they are right now.

In the cheap energy game, Europe were the beggars, not the providers. The decision to disconnect from cheap energy has left them non competitive. With their economies shrinking, defense spending shriveling, the US is being forced to borrow trillions more to spend on NATO to keep our European colonies from bending.

No matter how desperate US foreign policy is to get ahold of Russian resources, it’s destined to fail.

No matter what figures anyone wants to trot out about economics, Russia isn’t the one that’s $34 trillion over their heads.

lol. Yes. We are so desperate to get hold of Russian resources that we arent buying them. You remain the most comically entertaining Russian propagandist on the board. More please!!! Keep the comedy coming!

Again, just a suggestion---but maybe Russia---and the Chinese for that matter (the yaun is slumping and Chinese exports were down a whopping 12.5% last month) might be better off moving away from the militarily expansionist strategy and go back to mutually beneficial peaceful coexistence based on trade and cooperative economic development.

For those that don’t know, Rosatom provides about 70% of global nuclear exports.

Other projects currently under construction are in Turkey, China, India, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Egypt and Indonesia. Now, this part may just be propaganda, but rumor has it some of those countries have very large populations and extreme needs to keep up with large populations with growing energy needs. Rumor also has that the US has pressured a lot of those countries to drop Russia as a nuclear partner, but appear to have taken the bait.

All told, that’s hundreds of billions in income that no one in the West seems to be able to sanction.

Hungary will be exporting to other countries in the EU who have rewritten their sanctions to allow the import of electricity sourced from Russia. You know, because they need it. General Electric is even subcontracting for some of the work on Hungary’s reactor, which is odd, because I thought US companies weren’t making deals with Russia. Because of, you know, those sanctions that cratered their economy last year. For those that don’t know, Rosatom is a company owned by the Government of Russia.

Still talking to yourself in this thread I see. Ruble is down about a penny in value. I missed where you posted anything on the ruble collapse in the thread. Were no articles explaining the ruble crash available on your Russia Economic Propaganda news source? How odd.

I confused here. Is this sarcasm? "Ruble down a penny"? The Ruble is affected by oil prices. It spiked after Russia invaded Ukraine when oil prices spiked. It is down 4/1000th of a US dollar as compared to 2018. It spiked to .017 in 2022 and is now at .011. As comparison the US dollar was at 1.16 in 2018 and at 1.09 now.

typo--should have read "Down to about penny". I like the way you refer to it as "4/1000's of a dollar". The reality is going from .017 to .011 since 2022 represents the loss of about 35% of the rubles 2022 buying power. The loss of 35% of a currencies buying power in 2023 is a kinda significant factor in a thread making a big deal about the increase in Russian wealth during 2022. Any closing of the wealth gap in 2022 is gone and Russians are probably looking at a wealth gap similar to roughly to 2018 levels based on your own post.

Ruble pricing is purely supply and demand. If nobody wants rubles, its value with respect to more in demand currencies falls. The ruble spiked in 2022 because the Russian sovereign fund starting aggressively buying rubles in order to prop up its value. That could not be sustained because extra defense spending and propping up the ruble was rapidly draining the sovereign fund. It would run out of money in about a year at the current rate of spending. The new strategy is raising interest rates and hope that attracts more people into ruble denominated investments.
The War is not affecting it. As I stated it was at .015 in 2018 and is now at .011. Russia is a Totalitarian government. It is not comparable to America.

Most especially in social program spending. We spend more on welfare than their entire economy.

Not saying that’s a good thing.

BP (BP), took a $24.4 billion charge for giving up its 19.75% shareholding in Rosneft, Russia’s biggest oil company. The move also took a bite out of the British energy giant’s oil and gas reserves.

So rather than be “in business” with a Russian state owned company, they took a $24 billion dollar loss (some say it’s actually 4-5 times but that BP is using accounting tricks to mask it) and handed their entire share of the company to the Government of Russia, to punish them. Ok.

Russia has already set the penalty amount for their possible reentry, and it’s quite steep.

Meanwhile, Britain is complaining that Russia withdrew from a tax treaty that prevents British companies from being taxed in both places. Now, the British companies will pay Russian taxes regardless, and if Britain wants to tax them again on top of it, it is free to do so.

Looking at GDP in PPP (purchasing power parity) terms eliminates price level discrepancies and provides for a more accurate comparison of living standards between countries.

In these measures, Russia has now surpassed Germany to become the world’s fifth wealthiest economy and the largest in Europe, with a $5.3 trillion GDP.

Russia Surpasses Germany to Become Worlds 5th Largest Economy, closing in on Japan

China $30.3 trillion
US $25.4
India $11.8
Japan $5.7
Russia $5.32
Germany $5.3

The Russian currency's monthslong decline stretching back to the end of last year is partly due to government spending on the war in Ukraine, where Russian forces have been in a slow retreat since the full-scale invasion began in February 2022 as they now battle a fierce Ukrainian counteroffensive

And the MOEX is up over 40% for the year and mostly still climbing.

https://markets.businessinsider.com/index/moex

Thanks to western firms like Vitol and their phantom fleets and under the table dealings, there is no way to tell how much Russian oil is being exported. The Swiss and Dutch sure love money more than they like American sanctions lol.

“We cratered their economy” back in February of 2022. You know, right before they ran out of weapons and couldn’t make more.

The main stream hacks will say anything to keep the weapons makers profits up. And we all know it, no matter how butt hurt it’s gets the real “patriots.”

RE: Russia got richer even as the war in Ukraine raged on last year, while the West shed
Estonia is one of the real tough talkers when it comes to anti Russia sanctions and pro Ukraine. Turns out the Prime Ministers husband owns a logistics company. And business has been absolutely booming. Turns out he has become somewhat of a specialist in helping Russia avoid sanctions. His company has helped export billions of Russian goods all over Scandinavia and Western Europe.

If people wonder why the sanctions aren’t as effective as the West had hoped, there are doubtlessly thousands of people in Western Europe doing the same thing has him. Only some of them are protected by their Prime Minister, but he’s certainly not alone.

The politicians get rich while the people suffer. Europeans aren’t so different from us after all.

"I cannot be up to speed on the business dealings of my husband and his business partners."

“I have not taken an interest or stuck my nose in it before," the premier also said.

“The PM said she only learned of the logistics activity Monday.”

“Prompted by a journalist, Kallas said she asked no questions when she agreed to lend Arvo Hallik's company Novaria Consult €350,000.

"I trust my husband. If he asks me for a loan, I shall grant it if it is in my power. Just as banks are not responsible for the business activity they help finance through loans, neither am I.”

I’m all for Russia continuing to export what they want where they want. They clearly have buyers waiting. What I’m not for, is American taxpayers paying the bills for a war that is then enriching European politicians who “support” it “morally” but merely see it as an opportunity to get even richer.

https://news.err.ee/1609074860/estonian-...ng-to-hide

From Londons Financial Times-

“The report adds to a growing scandal for Kallas, who emerged as one of the loudest and most influential voices in the west urging ever tougher action against Moscow”

This Leftist PM came to power in 2021 after she helped oust the Center-Right PM for corruption.

Heineken, the worlds second largest brewer just sold all of their Russian breweries for 1 euro. Their Russian business were once valued at just under $400 million. Sanctions aside, many Russian consumers have turned their backs on Western companies and indications are that it will continue well into the future. Therefore, many businesses increasingly see a dim future for their brands in the Russian market. The value of western companies that have been purchased by Russian companies is is in the hundreds of billions in value.

Brazil is buying more nickel from Russia than it has in decades. Russia, for those that don’t know, produces almost a quarter of the worlds high quality nickel. It’s used in all kinds of applications, like batteries, stainless steel, in a number of alloys, and in aerospace applications.

Norilsk Nickel is the worlds largest nickel producer and exporter. Profits have soared. The largest shareholder is the Government of the Russian Federation.

The sanctions the US dreamed up are not working. Countries just keep buying things Russia produces, ignoring US rhetoric, and there is nothing the US can do about it.
