RE: 2023 volleyball season
Good wins folks. UTSA is a decent win.
The Mavericks swept Presbyterian and Louisiana Tech today, the latter drawing 1,080. UTA now 6-0 for the first time since 2004. I'll get a blog up later, but it hasn't been against contenders. They are winning when they should. But it is a bit of an understatement to say they haven't been tested.

6-0 is Very good start to the season! ACU is happy to be 4-2. We are getting a little better this year (so far.)

UTRGV is back to .500 after sweeping Penn, defeating Prairie View A&M, and dropping a five-set thriller with a rematch of NIVC opponent Houston Christian, up next Texas A&M Corpus-Christi for the home opener.

The Cats just got their revenge on Texas Tech by winning 3-1 after they had lost to them 3-1 back on Aug. 27th. We should now sit at 5-2 over-all.

It was great in the Fieldhouse. 1700+ turnout, seemed like about half were wearing Beat Corpus shirts.
Makes up a little for that Houston Christian loss....

Some good wins tonight. Good job schools.
As for Houston Christian, they are a hard school to read. They usually suck at most sports, but apparently they've been good at volleyball for a bit now.

Last season Houston Christian made the NIVC and was placed in the same bracket as UTRGV. I am not surprised at all.

FoUTA, WacFan - you're convincing me that maybe losing to HCU isn't all that shameful.
But I have to confess that I was secretly hoping for a breakout season where we'd take down some "name" teams and sort of sweep the WAC.
Now it looks like the breakout team is UTA. Please keep it up.

HCU is picked to win the Southland again, for whatever that is worth.
UTA hasn't played anyone of value to say we are the breakout team this year. I think one team might have an RPI above 200. This weekend will be a little better as Central Arkansas, Tulsa and Oral Roberts are on deck.

Hopefully the Cats have a better day tomorrow against Cal and TX State. They fell 0-3 to Southeastern LA today.

And that's what I was referencing right here. UTA drops both matches today, first against Central Arkansas in five (25-27, 25-20, 29-31, 25-17, 11-15) and the second match was a Tulsa sweep. Oral Roberts on deck for tomorrow.

Well, it was good while it lasted.
The best WAC wins so far are ACU over Texas Tech and UVU over Utah. Good luck to Tarleton @ Alabama and SFA @ Arizona State this morning.
And ACU is at Texas State (RV).

Utah and Texas Tech aren't great at volleyball generally speaking. Texas State on the other hand, would be a good win.

Mavs bounce back with a 3-0 sweep of Oral Roberts. They end the weekend at 1-2.

Tarleton was up 2 sets to 0 over Alabama, and then loses the next three sets for the loss.
