Exclamation ***Official Cal vs North Texas game thread *** 9/1 @ 3pm ESPNU
It's game week, and there is reason to be hopeful that the Mean Green might earn a win in their AAC debut.....

The Cupboard isn't Bare- While Littrell never elevated UNT to the level of conference championships, he did get UNT into title games, and he left some solid talent for Morris to work with. This isn't a rebuilt team.

Cal Probably Needs Time to Gel- Cal has around 50 new players on their roster this season. They really hit the portal, and I can't believe all of those new pieces are going to work together in game one.

QB1 & QB1.5- I know the old saying about having two QB's, but this is a different situation... Chandler Rogers, who came from ULM where he was a starter, didn't get the starting job at UNT, despite posting an 80% completion percentage in the fall. And Rogers picked UNT over other offers including an offer from Cal. QB1 Stone Earle also posted a completion percentage of over 80% in the fall. Both have packages in Morris' offense, and could give the Cal defense fits.

Know thy Enemy- Morris was the OC at Washington State last season when they beat Cal. The Morris offense put 28 points on the Golden Bears, who still have the same DC. Could UNT's offense put up similar numbers on Saturday? Maybe.... UNT is stacked on offense at every position.

95 in California isn't Like 100 in Texas- As of this post the predicted kickoff temperature for Saturday's game is 100 degrees. And, I wouldn't be surprised if the temperature is higher by gametime. Cal prepared for the Texas heat by traveling to UC- Davis one day last week to practice in 95 degree weather. I just don't see how that compares to what awaits them in Denton, especially when you consider the up-tempo offense UNT will run. For contrast, UNT has passed on the comfort of their incredible IPF in favor of DATCU stadium, where the field temperature is always higher than the air temp. For this reason, I've got to give UNT the edge in conditioning.

Thoughts?

The recent passage of Hurricane/Tropical Storm Hilary gave Northern California an unusual dose of hot/muggy weather. But I agree with your main point about folks from Berkeley's fog belt not being well suited for Hot Dallas temps & humididity. (Any Lloyd Lindsay Young fans here?)

Add large quantities of chiggers, lovebugs, roaches, 'skeeters & fire ants if you really want to up your advantage. :-)

Why North Texas Might Just Beat Cal
Lol, Cal is a joke. NTSU should be ashamed of they can't beat them.

I think UNT has a good shot. Would be a nice win for the conference.

You have a point there. I think Cal uses more blue.

The bet on this one should be the loser joins the winner's conference.

Not sure what the point spread is, but it would be good for the AAC's perception to have NT win this game.

Cal was voted 9th in PAC12 poll and presently ranks 69th in the Massey Composite and yet are a 6.5 point favorite, presently. Yes, Cal is beatable and it would be a disappointment if North Texas does not win.

Because Cal straight up sucks and they only pretend to care about football when they get left behind in realignment.

I do not remember title game"S" with Littrell...I do remember a title game...being on the wrong side of a 41-17 beating. But that is just my memory.

No offense, but this is the kind of P5 game AAC teams should expect to win.

This. Cal is a bottom 10 P5 team, and UNT just played in a ccg.

PS: Why did you guys fire your coach after a ccg appearance?
