RE: SMU to the ACC
I don't get the big deal about them passing up TV distribution for 7 years in exchange for this lifeboat. For the next 7 years in the AAC they would have gotten about $50m, so that's what they're "losing" when it comes to TV distribution, but they'll gain so much more from other sources.

Aresco would probably have to step down.

If the PAC 2 absorb most of the MWC (have to take enough to have the votes to dissolve the MWC) and then cherry pick the best 4-6 of the AAC that would probably do it too.

Should be interesting to see how this plays out and who gets fukked.

This is the way. Loyalty to the MWC or AAC will provide for disappointed fan bases in the next 6 months.

Aresco is a great commish. There are forces in realignment that are out of his control. Have some faith. Now it's our turn.

The fact that you all really believe MWC teams are leaving to join now... when they wouldnt even join when UCF, Cinci and Houston were here seems like lunacy.

Now what happens to the AAC? Anything? Do we somehow talk the Pac 2 over here? Or reverse merge all of us? Or add a replacement for SMU from somewhere else? Or just do nothing?

Aresco has already been quoted as saying he has a "contingency plan if SMU leaves," so let's hear it, Mike.

Don’t laugh at me but what about TX State if they decide to backfill? They would fit the “markets” deal with Austin-San Antonio corridor. Plus they have pretty good facilities, better than some here. And football, with right coaching, has potential to be really good. Baseball and basketball programs are pretty good too. Gut feeling is they stand pat though.
We have more than enough in Texas.

Not a good look guys. There's an opportunity this weekend to settle things on the field.

Perhaps, but didn't Stanford, Cal, and SMU(for no TV money for 9 years) sound like lunacy a month or two ago.

OSU and WSU are the key. If they wan to come to AAC then one or two of SDSU, Fresno, Boise, UNLV, USAFA, or CSU will follow. One 1 or two jump the it changes the situation. RE: PAC 12.

I don't see WSU/OSU just falling line and joining the MWC. They will 1) try to rebuild the PAC. If not able, 2) join the AAC because of better pay and open possibility of MWC teams defecting in a year.

No they'll be seeing a bigger paycheck every year in the ACC than they see in the AAC because they'll share in CFP distributions, NCAA credits & other payouts from smaller bowls & events.

OSU, WSU join in 2024, all others in 2025. AAC will waive entry fees and can help the MWC with exit fee support.

This is the last chance for the AAC to improve the conference, right here. Maybe even Gonzaga Olympic sports too.

If the above doesn't happen, I think it's just a matter of time until Memphis, ECU, UAB join the Sun Belt to save travel costs and have the best shot at a playoff bid

Congrats to SMU! They have financial resources the rest of us can only dream of and it has allowed them to move up. I hope it works out for them.

They're still going to make more moe y in the ACC due to playoff and NCAA tournament revenues.

Last round of realignment Aresco couldn’t draw from The MW, hence the addition of the CUSA gang.

What makes you think he can pull from the MW now?

And what MW teams are going to foolishly pay that hefty exit fee to join an AAC that’s clearly weaker than the group they previously rejected?

If you think the MW is coming to “save the day,” then I think you’re grasping at straws. . . .
