Tribe frequently has lots of competition for attendance. Yesterday Hampton drew 10,000 for Norfolk State (worth remembering for future scheduling), and ODU, Va Tech, and UVA all at home. Probably lots of eyeballs on the UVA vs JMU game. Toss in the weather excuse, Cox Yurview availability, the fan demographic and attendance was what it was.

Yes, the Pep Band is alive and (I hope) well. Sadly, you couldn’t hear them playing the fight song and Alma Mater post-game over the music blasting over the PA system. Not a complaint about the music, but give the band their time.

I don’t understand the Cox Yurview deal. Why broadcast in an area we’re trying to draw fans from? Seems like anyone on the fence would just stay home and watch the game on TV, especially in iffy weather.

I just want to move up to third so the Montana State fans lose their minds.

w/r/t the passing game, we'd have looked a lot better stat-wise if Kendrick caught a couple passes that were well thrown. They weren't necessarily easy catches, but the ball "hit him in the hands" at least twice for drops including one that would have been a TD.

We deeply miss Newton athleticism at WR this year. So far none of our WR have come close to filling his shoes. Coaches need to make some adjustments quickly in this area

I think we also gave up 3 sacks.

I honestly don't remember three sacks. One of them was totally on Mathis and not the O-Line. The one in the first quarter led to Wofford's first FG after punting from our endzone and letting them start on our 29 yard line. He should have thrown it away much earlier before scrambling backwards. He had several of these scrambles where he threw ill advised passes also.

I remember the sack shortly before the Wofford FG. There was also a play in the fourth quarter where Wilson ran sideways all the way to the sideline while being chased out of bounds. I couldn’t tell if he got no gain or lost a yard. If the latter then that might have counted as a sack. I must have missed any sack that involved Mathis.

I'm nitpicking here, but I'd argue that we miss Newton's size. We've got athletic WR, but not big ones. Kendrick made a great leaping attempt on a perfectly thrown ball in the first quarter that he couldn't come down with. In my memory it seemed like he had a good 2-3 feet of air.

Hmm, maybe just nitpicking, but seems like if the pass had been "perfectly thrown" then it wouldn't have required a "great leaping attempt" in order to try to complete it......

I misstyped. I meant Wilson, not Mathis.

Unfortunately, it didn't happen. We stayed at # 4 and Montana St. stayed at #3. Idaho moved up to # 5 (moving Holy Cross and Furman down one notch each). If Idaho wins this week against Cal (after already beating FBS Nevada this past week) then they would surely pass us in the rankings.

RE: Football vs Wofford
I think the best W&M can likely hope for is #4 if they run the table this regular season. I am sure that the coaches and players will do a good job of merely focusing on Charleston Southern this week. Even though the players on each team differ from year to year, the preseason rankings tend to give a year long advantage as long as you keep winning. But, W&M will be hurt by two factors: 1) the memory of the big loss at Montana State to end last season and 2) the inability of the voters to see any of our games other than the one this weekend at Charleston Southern and the game against UVA on Oct. 7th.

The team can't do anything about either of those factors. They just need to prepare and play well each week. But, it is frustrating as perception does play a role in seeding at the end of the year.

I am not arguing W&M should be ranked higher either. We are probably fortunate to be 4th at the present time.

I think our chance will come to jump Montana State. Getting a 3 seed if we dream that big would be huge . Just one chance to make a Sky or MV team come east for a playoff semifinal.

The UVA game will be pivotal though. We would need a close encounter to avoid it from being a knock down in the polls.

Lot of football and games to play. One at a time and I think we can hopefully host another semi - or be in position.,

I think W&M is deserving of the 4 ranking (or thereabouts) because of last year’s results (the new poll has to start somewhere). I also know that Montana State has some tough road games coming up— which I think they will lose 1 or 2 — so W&M should jump them as long as we keep winning. I also know that either NDSU or SDSU will lose when they play each other. So it is POSSIBLE that W&M could be #2 if we go undefeated (and, yes, I realize that means beating UVa which I think is doable). Even if we lose to the Hoos, hopefully we don’t drop too much in the polls. I noticed that no one who lost to FBS dropped more than 1-2 spots.

I’m dreaming of hosting a game against MVFC or Big Sky. Getting revenge against MSU (or even Northern Iowa) would be great. Plus, we’re not getting any younger.

EDIT: before anyone jumps on me, I realize that we just play one game at a time and our next game is against Chas Southern. In fact, based on the team that I saw last Saturday, we need to get a lot better to just win our league.

I guess TribeAthletics got rid of the highlights and game recaps on YouTube? Understandable but a real shame. I always enjoyed those.

There are highlights on the CAA football weekly recap. I actually prefer as they show the entire big plays without any distracting background music. It’s YouTube.

The game highlights are shown at the Quarterback Club meeting every Monday at 7pm. Join for $125 per year and meet us for free food starting 6:30 at Corey's Chicken Shack on Richmond Road. Coach London talks at 7pm and introduces the players of the week

Flo has highlights on YouTube. You are stuck with the other school's announcers if it is a road game. The Campbell highlights skipped the blocked punt. I guess it wasn't a highlight for the Camels.
