The stadium itself was a bit disappointing.
The video board and particularly the sound system left a lot to be desired. I’m surprised that a 60,000 seat stadium only has one video board. Should be a second one at the opposite end.
Another thing that stood out to me was how little press box space it has. I’ve toured dozens of big time stadiums and almost always they have huge press box facilities.
Scott Stadium needs some updates. My favorite part of the stadium is the hill. Great attraction for the students.
I was at the NC State game last night. The video board sound system was terrible. Fixing the sound system would be doable in a month or two. Easy. They just have to make it a priority. Parking is what you'd expect for stadium in the middle of a city. But, walking is good exercise.
As for the stadium itself. It is beautiful. The brick and mortar look great. It presents a wide and open feel with real grass as the focal point. As soon as I walked into Scott Stadium last night, the sweet smell of fresh grass and dirt was a welcome sensation. Just perfect.
The seating is great also. The slope (rise and run) makes viewing the field with people sitting in front of you excellent. The lower slope allows for a broader viewing range and plenty of room with people in front and behind you. It reminds me of the Rose Bowl which does not have a bad seat in the house.
The worst is Lane Stadium (VT). Watching a home VT game makes you feel like you are going to fall forward over the folks in front of you and you are literally on top of them and breathing on their heads. The people behind you are breathing on your head. it is cramped and terribly uncomfortable. You have to stand up for the entire game.
I wish JMU had a brick and mortar stadium with some Bluestone compliments and a real grass field. We have a nice stadium but it misses the mark for complimenting the atmosphere and architecture of the main campus. Scott Stadium compliments the overall architecture of the school.
And yes, 'the hill' is a nice unique feature for the young folks to experience a football game.
All in all, I think Scott Stadium is really a nice venue. I enjoy the atmosphere of a college football game at Scott Stadium, Even more so when JMU wins! I wish we had the ability to build one like it.
You talked about Lane, I think Chapel Hill is even worse. Yes, they are chairs, but your knees are in the back of the head of the person in front of you. It's built for midgets.

RE: Scott Stadium
I remember the game vs UNC at Chapel Hill. Seats in front of you were so close it was like flying in an airplane with the seat in front of you fully reclined. I also recall hitting the bathrooms a couple of times and the urinals in the mens room were so close together you had to stand sideways to use them. The MRDs couldn't even squeeze into their seats with their instruments and a whole bunch of them had to stand in the aisles so they had enough room to play.
Don't think people were that much smaller when that stadium was built, just a really bad design.

RE: Scott Stadium
Seems they finally got around to an upgrade to Ho Vision…
Quote:FAN EXPERIENCE ENHANCEMENTS
Virginia Football is excited to introduce the all new Hoo Vision video board this season. The finished structure will be transformative to the Scott Stadium gameday experience.
Upon completion, the board’s visual quality will be top-of-the line, now double the quality of the outgoing board. Additionally, Hoo Vision will now stretch almost sideline to sideline, nearly quadrupling the screen size. Upon completion, it will rank as one of the best video boards in college football in both quality and size.
