After week 3 we have some improvement, but AAC needs some P5 wins.
Tier #1
Tulane - did what they needed to do without Pratt
SMU, Rice - took care of their cupcakes
Memphis - got by Navy, barely
Fears
Navy - played Memphis tough, looking better
USF - way to play a Top Ten team, should be proud
UTSA - lost their QB and the game
Temple - got a win
UNT - got a win
FAU - guess Clemson finally woke up
Charlotte - not good
Tears
Tulsa - clobbered by OU
UAB - dropped into the Tears bracket
ECU - continues their slump

Would definitely have this conference in good shape for the access bowl bid again too. Best of luck to ya the rest of this season
The way Missouri and Boise both looked today, I would be surprised if we win either game.
The way Boise got shat on by Washington earlier in the year, I honestly thought they weren’t that good. They put up a really good fight against UCF though, and obviously took care of business against North Dakota. I’m not really sure how to feel about that team yet, but I’m pretty confident Memphis will win. Definitely understand holding your breath a bit for Mizzou. If this were the Norvell era I would still be super confident you pul it off, but I know the team hasn’t been quite as good under Silverfield (still love Shere’s “Ruin Silverfield” moniker lol.) But in all honesty I haven’t had much of a chance to watch either Memphis or Mizzou this year, so I don’t think I could give a good prediction as to the outcome.
Well, I can.
Lol. Wasn’t disagreeing in any way, just discussing. Think even at 4-1, assuming Tulane is only a 1 loss team the winner of that game should enter the rankings again imo
Well, I think we lose both before we get to Tulane. Maybe I'm wrong, I hope.
I have no faith in Silverfield. We fumbled that ball late on 1st and goal at the one b/c RS was being nice and wanted Watson to score, after he just ran 69 yards to set us up. Instead, he should have let Henigan sneak it in, as he had easily done earlier, and had also done in another game. That almost cost us the game.
Not to mention, after we went up 31-3 vs. Ark State the week before, halfway through the 3rd quarter, RS took his foot off the gas, and with maybe one exception, we ran the ball up the middle the rest of the game.
With our scrubs in, we managed to score one more TD right at the horn, and RS was so livid that he refused to kick the extra point. He then apologized to the opposing coach on the field. Silverfield is too damn nice to be a head coach.
That attitude cost us at least 2 games last season, and maybe 3.

UTSA was out with arguably their 3 best players (Harris, Clark-WR and Trey Moore-OLB ankle in early 2nd) Traylor will rest everyone with a papercut for Tennessee game. "Fears" is probably warranted If those guys don't come back for conference play.

Wow, I didn’t realize he was so soft lol. Definitely explains why a lot of Memphis fans have no faith in him. Was he on the hot seat at all coming into the season? I know the team has still at least been making bowl games, but after the run Memphis had from like 2016-19 I could see fans getting impatient

Silverfield's seat, per one of the major sports sites preseason (I forget which), had it listed as "sizzling hot." One of only 3 coaches in the entire country, IIRC.
Fans wanted him fired last year, but the boosters who pay his buyout weren't on board. I think he has to go 8-4 to keep his job, but at 8-4, Memphis fans will still be unhappy, given the softness of our schedule.

Yep. The only other supposedly tough game is SMU near the end of the season. We need to go at least 2-1 through these 3.

Yes, two wins against Boise and Mizzou sounds gooooooood

After week 5, it is looking like:
Tier #1
Tulane - good to see Pratt back
Tier #2
Memphis - sadly couldn't get it done
SMU - Offensive struggles continue
Fears and Tears - AAC dream of NY6 Bowl seems to be fading. A very down year for our Conference. Memphis still has a chance to help v. Boise. Surprises are USF offense and Charlotte defense. Can they build on this?

clt says the smu charlotte under looks interesting
I think the winner of the Tulane at MEMPHIS game will be well positioned to get the NY6 slot BUT that Oct 13 winner MUST run the table the rest of the way, including the AAC Championship Game (which they would host).
Toughest games* for both teams in regular season AFTER that Friday night game:
MEMPHIS - SMU on 11/18
Tulane - Tulsa on 11/11
* based on current records; obviously any AAC team can go on a winning streak
Obviously a lot of football remains to be played...but the odds favor a TIGER/Wave rematch in the AACCG.

I don’t think Tulsa is remotely close to the best team other than Memphis left on our schedule, particularly at home.
If Frank Harris is able to play, it’s probably UTSA at home, if not it is on the road at Rice or on the road at FAU. Really I’m more concerned about any of the road games than I am Tulsa at home.
