The Compher era may go down as the the all-time worst period in the history of ECU athletics.
Rumor has it that Flinn is getting the start at QB today.
Based on what I've heard, I'd put Compher on a Bottom 10 list of AD'S in FBS for the NEW MILLENIUM (throw back title to 2001).

Attendance smack from a commuter school that's a ghost town on the weekends. That's rich. At least App students don't live with their parents.
Looking forward to todays game. App v ECU is a natural fit.
It would be a conference game under different circumstances. I have admired Appy St’s program since their epic upset of Michigan.

What circumstances? If Aresco had been allowed to go for football brands last time around, rather than markets, I think he would have done that. Marshall, App, ODU, USM, UTSA, and JMU would've been better adds than what was brought in. I get a lot of the city schools don't care much about "taking a bus through the mountains" (it's literally a four lane highway now whether you come up from Charlotte or Greensboro) but if you haven't been to a game at App, I'd recommend doing so before passing judgment on the travel.
Hopefully a lot of people tune in for this game and pump up the ESPN+ numbers which will matter for both schools.

I would rather have Appy St in the AAC than some of the schools actually added. The circumstances were ESPN in essence dictated the schools added in order to financially hold harmless legacy members.

A lot of respect shown by both fanbases. Love to see it!
I have a feeling this one will be a great game, getting top effort by ECU. However, that App State home crowd will be legit, over 40,000 or more, its a tough place to pick up a win.
Big time week for both of our conferences, four SBC vs AAC games. Hopefully our SBC faithfull keep it clean and non trolly here today.

They probably would if they’re getting a cut of the proceeds. I think that’s actually very obtainable.

I appreciate the respect and the humbleness of the App State fans. They’ve been great, but I know they are feeling much more confident than they are letting on about this game. Because let’s face it, we’ve looked like hot garbage in spots the first two games. I am of course hoping for a win, but I will take much better play on our parts and a loss.

I think East Carolina fans have universally been pretty respectful of both App and Marshall, which is super appreciated. But also, I've noticed a lot have been super down on their program. I've been telling the Sun Belt posters, that East Carolina vs Marshall game last week was much, much closer than the final score indicated. And honestly if it wasn't for a few fluky things that happened in the fourth quarter, it would have been a much closer game.
I think Garcia does have the highest upside of the two quarterbacks, and you could see he had moments, so I think sticking with him is the right call, it should be a great game today.

We still have a bit of a hangover from the Coach Mo years. So when things go south, we expect the worst to happen. It really damaged the fanbase. Attendance plummeted, confidence in the program went way down. Mike Houston has done a good job at turning things around.
I agree with you on Garcia. His ceiling is very high. His problem is between the ears. And I don’t mean that he is unintelligent. I mean he lacks confidence and poise. He looks very uncomfortable back there, loses his composure, and makes mistakes. The only cure for that is to keep putting him out there and giving him more repetitions. Eventually, he is going to turn the corner. People are ready to abandon him and move on. I don’t agree with that. But I do think we need to continue using Flinn too.
As for the Marshall game, it was much closer than the score indicated. You are right. The team made a couple of critical mistakes and Marshall made us pay for it. Good teams will do that. Marshall and Michigan were both top ten defenses last year. And are likely just as good or better this year on that side of the ball. Good defenses can make good quarterbacks look bad. And our quarterbacks are inexperienced.
Interested to see how the Pirates do today. I think they’ll improve.

It’s tough because I agree that we should not give up on Mason. However, I think that Flinn gets the start and does well today and that the running game gets going because of that. The goal with Flinn is to modify the O to more Air raid - Lincoln Riley style. Our much maligned OC was the WR coach under LR after all and is rumored to be hamstrung by coach Houston’s philosophy. Rumor is, coach Houston is prepared to acquiesce to opening up the O today in that capacity. If that all comes to fruition, it will be difficult to not move forward with Flinn the rest of the year. Mason should come in for at least one drive each half or in special package situations and will show he can throw and run. While App’s D is the worst we’ve faced this year, they are not bad. Conversely, their O is good. Will be a tough test but the Pirates’ backs are against the wall. Should be interesting.

I have heard on several occasions that MH has his hands on the offense to an extent. And much of it centers around run/pass balance and controlling the clock. I know I have read that somewhere. He is not big on hurry up offense.
