I've not studied the Korean War in any real depth. Very surprised to find something like this happening. I don't think something to this extent ever happened to the Germans in the USSR fighting for Stalingrad.

An entire army? Nope.

But read up on what the USMC faced at the Battle of the Chosin Reservoir. Brutal tactical situation outnumbered by 100k and brutal weather conditions. Marines dragged the frozen fallen behind them like cordwood.

Oh no that was a sticking point for McArthur. He basically gave Truman an ultimatum because he was tired of his men repelling the NKs and Chinese and then falling back to 38th parallel iirc. Wanted to drop A Bomb on them and end it.

Knew some who fought there and one was minus a hand. He told me about frostbite and frozen skin men suffered.

My Dad saw combat in N. Korea. I'm not sure where but he described conditions there as the most dire he ever encountered in two wars or in his life. He said he couldn't shave comfortably because as soon as he'd fill his helmet with water it would freeze. He said the cold took about as many of his comrades as combat did.

North Korea is a frozen conflict.

I had heard about it, I had never seen photos of it before though... Super eerie!!!!

It's like they didn't even try to stay warm... Like a mass frozen suicide!!

My grandfather was a Boriqueneer and was at the Battle of Chosin. They went in to evacuate the Marine First Batallion. They had to fight off four Chinese regiments. A lot of men KIA, wounded and missing. The Island Boys weren’t used to those weather conditions. My grandfather did not die in Korea, but he never forgot that war.
