slhNavy91, question for you, did you have Dr. David Allen White as a professor at USNA?
I know he's been retired for about 15 years but seeing the Liberal Arts ranking of USNA I can't help but think that his fingerprints are all over this even today. A very learned man that seemed to have an outsized impact on everything he touched. Just curious.
Shoot me an IM if you prefer. Thanks

What happened to the USNWR ranking system- Tulane drops from 43 to 73 in one year? That's ridiculous, we're doing nothing different from 1 year ago.

I graduated a year before slhNavy91 and I never heard of him, but I was an engineering major so I don't know if I would have run into him anyway.
I will tell you that the liberal arts degrees at USNA are probably nothing special (though good). They actually grant only BS degrees so even if English or History/Political Science degrees are granted as a BS; and we only have like 5 non-STEM majors.
USNA and the other service academies are ranked as liberal arts colleges because they don't know where else to put them. They used to rank us against universities, but that isn't really right either. We are odd birds.

I read that they massaged the criteria to put less emphasis on small class sizes. Some private schools dropped on just that.

Imagine if UAB's athletics programs were on the same level as its post-grad. One can dream.

RE: US News and World Report Top Colleges 2024
Quote:But more than a dozen public universities, many of them with relatively low profiles, climbed at least 50 spots in the rankings. Fresno State moved up 64 places, to No. 185, for instance, and Florida Atlantic ascended 53, to No. 209. Many other public institutions recorded smaller, if notable, gains, like Rutgers, which saw each of its three campuses rise by at least 15 places.
Private universities proved particularly vulnerable to the new formula. Small class size, which was 8 percent of a score a year ago, is a matter of pride for many elite institutions. Its disappearance from the algorithm played a role in some top schools’ rankings tumbling.
The University of Chicago, No. 6 last year, moved down to No. 12. Dartmouth declined six places to finish at No. 18. Washington University in St. Louis, which was No. 15 last year, slipped to 24th. Brandeis, now ranked 60th, fell 16 spots, almost as much as Wake Forest, which declined 18 spots to tie for No. 47. Tulane went to No. 73 from No. 44.

Roger that. He was an English professor there for 38 years. I know him through Catholic circles and his involvement in Christendom College in Front Royal, VA, so was just curious. He's a brilliant guy. Thanks for the reply Vonz.
