I expect them to keep it close as our offense continues to struggle to find its identity. Hopefully our O-Line is back at full strength this week and Yoder has a chance to shrug off whatever it is that may or may not be nagging him. I'm looking for progress--any progress--in the passing game.

Geography is on our side, as the Jeffs will be traveling 830 miles to revive one of the many great local rivalries in this convenient bus league. That plus our nasty defense (before the whistle, hopefully) will squash the looming possibility of an embarrassing home loss.

“Fighting Jeffs” wins the Internet today!

Really? Seems pretty simple minded.

I think that it just lends more credence to Virginia Tech leapfrogging you.

You must be a real treat in person, Geoffrey.

Keep fighting, Jeff!

Yeah when people call Maine the "Alabama of New England" they aren't talking about football prowess.

How about the weather report? I can't remember having our first two home game crowds wrecked by rain.

New Hampshire is the Alabama of New England. Maine votes Democrat (mostly).

Someone calls Maine the Alabama of New England and I'm not supposed to respond?

Bye.

Not sure what the fuss is all about, Alabama is a nice place and so is Maine.

Some of the states that get the most fun poked at them are actually quite beautiful. I have travelled quite a bit for work over the years and have visited farms and rural areas in just about every state in the lower 48 and they all have some fabulous spots.

This from the latest Daily Press Edition, for Saturday:

Hampton Roads and the rest of the mid-Atlantic is expected to have heavy rainfall and gale-force winds as a non-tropical low pressure system forms off the coast of Florida.

Looks like a good day for a strong ground game.

The weather forecast looks worse each day. I dont know how they are going to play in 40 mile an hour winds and 3 inches of rain. I mean...I know they are coming from Maine, but what are the chances of this game not happening?

A lot of us, on this board, remember September 23, 2003, and the brouhaha that followed. That was when W&M cancelled the home opener against these same Black Bears, because of Hurricane Isabel, and then decided not to reschedule the contest for later in the season. While the Maine AD was sympathetic, he, and others at the school, did voice displeasure that W&M didn't (in their estimation) try hard enough to make a new date happen.

Could happen again.

It wasn't just people at Maine who were unhappy that W&M didn't either move the game or reschedule it.

Isabella was a different story. The campus was littered with downed trees and no electricity. Students were sent home. The issue was whether to play the game at City Stadium in Richmond.

The hope is this storm might scoot just a smidgen faster. Now we are down to 70% rain at 3pm and less than 50% after 6pm. If it can pick up just a little speed, hopefully it hits earlier on Friday - right now looks like about noon - and moves north and out before Saturday afternoon.

RE: Football Game 4 - Maine
What would make the most sense would be to move the start time to 6:00. This is going to be more of a rain event than a wind event for us in Hampton Roads, with the normal areas having tidal flooding issues. We are not going to have a beautiful fall evening at 6:00 in the evening, but it looks like all of the heavy rain should have pushed out by then. Don't know if moving the time back would help the attendance, and I would not presume to know if Maine were flexible enough to have the start time pushed back by 2 1/2 hours, but it certainly would allow both teams to play the game in much safer conditions.

Smart - plus any lightning nearby, they delay anyway. I wouldn’t be surprised if a delay pushed it back anyway,
