RE: The real reason Ft Worth hosts the AAC Tourney
Consistently hosting the conference tournament in a single venue on the extreme western fringe of the conference makes very little sense. It needs to move east or at the very least rotate.

Per Commissioner Aresco the reason is because other AAC schools "don’t want to have to compete against somebody on their home floor. So this way, it’s pretty much a true neutral site.”

Of course, it is not a neutral site. North Texas is only 39 away from Dickies Arena. In contrast, Memphis is 490 miles away and Wichita is 360 miles away and eastern schools even a further distance away.

Fans of UTSA, Rice, and especially North Texas have the opportunity for increased presence, more convenience and less cost to attend games than the two biggest fan bases in the AAC.

It is an outrage. I will not attend and encourage Memphis and WSU fans to boycott until leadership decides to rotate the site. Save your travel money for in-season tourneys and NCAA and NIT games.......

It's not an "outrage." Get over it. Drive or fly to the tournament. It's only 490 miles away for you, and 357 miles away for Wichita. Easy. You should be happy it's in Ft. Worth.

Consider a boycott an opportunity for Rice fans to fill the void.

Rice travels in great numbers and only need to to drive a little more than half the distance of Tiger fans, right?

Grownups don't "boycott" on their team. Get to the tournament.

No, thanks. Tiger fans sharing my disgust will divert the money instead to things like NIL or go somewhere more fun than Ft Worth.

Rice can pick it up from here….

So Dickies Arena isn’t a neutral site but the arena in suburban Memphis would be?

Is this an old complaint? Did SMU enjoy an advantage in the past?

I'm okay with the tournament being in Fort Worth, but I can understand eastern teams wanting the opportunity to host the tournament in the east too. But, I know things like this get determined based on which location offers the best terms and incentives, so if programs want the tournament to move, they need to get some cities in their region to up their best deal.

You have to actually be good to capitalize on the advantages.

I just don't like the idea of a 'perma-site'

Landers Center, Intrust Arena, Legacy Arena (upper deck curtained off), Smoothie King Center (upper deck curtained off), Ft Worth.

5 sites or 2 visits every decade...that sounds fair.

Good point. I have no problem with Dallas being part of the rotation for the benefit of the Texas schools.

I am over it. I made up my mind what to do.

What will you do? I figure UTSA can join forces with Rice and fill the arena just like a home game.

So UTSA, Rice, and especially North Texas fans (to the extent they exist) should have the home court advantage along with money and time savings more than Memphis and WSU fans? 01-wingedeagle

Tiger and Shocker fans can spend their money elsewhere and likely will.

Be honest. How many fans of those schools are going to be motivated to show up? Maybe some North Texas will show up if they have a good year. Odds are good the Memphis fans will outnumber the three put together anyway.

All the more reason to move it from DFW and create a rotating schedule or find a venue that's more centrally located.

It is unfair to fans of WSU and Memphis (in particular due to distance) to be perpetually punished with greater travel time and cost when they are the largest fan bases in the AAC. Also, it is more fun to travel to different places rather than returning over and over to the same city.

Rotation (which should include Birmingham) will keep things fresh and give fans from all schools a better opportunity to see their team in person.

If you rotate then you rotate to every single school otherwise in your own words it would be unfair to those teams for never getting to have home court advantage and the same 3-4 teams get home court over and over and over.

Fine with me compared to the present set up.

In some leagues, the highest seed hosts the Conference Tournament. I would prefer it compared to Ft Worth ad nauseam. At least the site selection would be based on merit.

You cannot plan a tourney far enough ahead of time to make that work.

And yet it occurs…..

However, it might be impossible in the far flung AAC with venues dedicated for many uses crowding the calendar.

I don't know about you, but when I look at that map, I see New Orleans as our center. Not to harp on it, but that would be the ideal sight for our basketball tournament. It's just an incredible place. Everyone would have an excuse to go to New Orleans and party for a weekend. I wish Aresco would ask them to bid.

The only leagues that do that are low-major ones. I don’t even think most mid-major leagues play at a member’s home floor.

That would scream small-time.
