Relates to who has the best BBQ, Memphis or Birmingham. That trophy is 100 pounds of bronze ribs.

Birmingham? Texas cities get mentioned in more circles and publications for barbecue than Birmingham.

There is an article today about the trophy in the Commerical Appeal.

In sum, the 97 pound trophy was conceived by UAB in 2006 to drum up interest in the Memphis/UAB FB games. https://www.commercialappeal.com/story/s...189054007/

The trophy has no organic origin and, like the game itself, was manufactured to contrive a rivalry when none exists for most Memphis fans. Like the trophy, the game was put on the shelf due to lack of interest collecting dust until events forced its renewal this season.

Should the Tigers prevail, it would not bother me seeing the trophy left behind. Should the Tigers lose, it would not bother me seeing the trophy left behind.

I mean, AAC could sponsor BBQ as it’s own sport with so many well credentialed areas represented in the league.

Any proposed future rotation of basketball tournament locations MUST consider this.

Next time you’re in Fort Worth, plan to check out Goldee’s, which topped the 2021 Texas Monthly statewide list.

Texas is beef, Memphis and Birmingham are pork.

Of course. But we're talking PORK BBQ. Not beef. Dreamland, in particular. Jim & Nick's. Several others, vs. Memphis, of course.

Nobody said the rivalry has to be based on the ONLY people with the best BBQ, lol. Or that it has to be pork AND beef.

That's like saying you can't have eastern and western Carolina BBQ, b/c others are more famous. I'd say they have a pretty good rivalry going.

When are you going to stop complaining about someone expressing facts and opinions based on facts? Do you know the purpose of a messageboard? It is a place “users can engage in a virtual conversation” ((Source)

If you dispute the facts, state them. If you differ with my opinion, illuminate with your opinion. Otherwise, spare me the lecture please and put me on ignore. SMH.

I like the novelty of having a 100-lb homage to slow-cooked pork. May we keep the trophy in Memphis.

I wouldn't say it's Birmingham in particular but Alabama as a whole definitely is a BBQ state. Basically everyone has Alabama White sauce these days. Dreamland, Archibald's, Big Bob Gibson's, and Saw's are the ones that are usually on the "top BBQ in America" lists.

I've unfortunately never stayed in Memphis more than an hour or two while road tripping. The first time we drove through though we picked up Central BBQ and that **** absolutely slapped. Even the packaging was awesome.

As for the game, I'm really looking forward to it, the weather should be incredible. UAB is kind of limping into the BYE week, especially after UTSA showed off our offensive tendencies, so I'm not sure how much of an actual game this will be on the field.

I stated my opinion, which I have a right to do. You harp on the same complaints over and over. At some point, even a dog lets go of the bone.

Now say whatever makes you happy. I'm not going down the stupid rabbit hole, which you will perpetuate forever. I'm sure a lot of the newbie fans are tired of it.

It was all fun and games until Dilfer and the journalist dissed Memphis ribs. We're out for blood now!
