Nylah Young didn’t have her usual high-scoring game but she did connect on a 70-foot inbounds pass and layup to bump the Tribe lead from 2 to 4 with just 6 seconds left. The inbounds play barely made it in in less than 5 seconds.

On to Hofstra. Let’s start the CAA slate with two road wins!

I watched the last part of the game on CBS Sports, I think. Very exciting finish! Nice to start the year beating the defending champs on their home court.

Great great win today. Held Hofstra to only 4 points over the last 11+ minutes. Just an awesome way for Coach E and company to close out the game.

RE: 2023-24 Women's Basketball Season
Yes, a mighty win! Even the Hofstra announcer said at the end that W&M deserved the win. Some details, then thoughts:

The Tribe couldn’t hit anything in the first quarter, sinking not even one field goal. All we had was 4 free throws (out of 8) and were behind 15-4 after 1Q. We roared back with a 20-7 2Q to take a 2 point lead at the half (including Mikeska sinking a long 3 at the buzzer). Hofstra then started Q3 on a 10-0 run including their own shot clock buzzer-beating trey. Tribe recovers (more on that below) and the rest of the game is nip-and-tuck and great defense. The Tribe held for the last shot and Bella Nascimento turned from goat (missing a breakaway layup near the end) to hero (by sinking the last shot).

Great comeback win (two in a row) and incredible resilience shown. Nothing better than starting conference play 2-0 on the road!

Freshman Cassidy Geddes is a good player and is going to be a great player. However, she is not ready to be starting yet. Senior Rebekah Frisby-Smith should be starting. She has boundless energy and is a great defender. In fact, it wasn’t until she was reinserted into the game in the 3Q that the Tribe stopped Hofstra’s 10-0 run. Frisby-Smith should play every minute of every game.

RE: 2023-24 Women's Basketball Season
Tough, tough loss Friday night 53-51. Biggest lead all night for either team was 5 and that was A&T near the very end. Both teams played stout defense; W&M had 3 different scoring droughts of at least 5 minutes each and went more than 8 minutes without scoring a field goal in the 4th quarter. The game-changing stat was rebounds; A&T 52-32 with many offensive boards after the Tribe played good D for 22 seconds. A&T also shot free throws well (20-23; the Tribe was 15-16); too bad the Aggies didn’t miss a few more.

Nylah Young has had two straight games scoring less than 10 points…need to get her untracked versus Elon. She was only 2-15 from the field and missed a lot of layups.

Edit: also want to give a shoutout to Alexa Mikeska. Backup point guard has led the team in rebounding the last two games with 11 and 9!

Tribe win 62-43. First time Tribe has won its first 3 conference road games. Bella Nascimento with a double-double.

But for a bunch of missed layups against A&T, the Tribe would be sitting on top of the standings undefeated. Some winnable games coming up. Go Tribe

Big win! 4-1 in the CAA now. Best conference start for the Tribe in 30 years.

Great win! — but one of the most frustrating games I have ever seen!! The Tribe made SO MANY mistakes…but still pulled it out. Terry Tarpey…uh, I mean Rebekah Frisby-Smith, made a huge steal with seconds left to ensure there would be no late game funny business.

On to preseason favorite Towson on Sunday.

Oh I thought you would have loved it because the Hens kept missing FTs in the overtime.

There would have been less of them to miss if the Tribe did a better job blocking out….

Great IG reel after tonight's win. Winning begets winning. It's a mental game.

RE: 2023-24 Women's Basketball Season
Tribe lose 80-64. Nascimento scored 20 or so but most were in the second half when the game was decided. We did ourselves no favors by going 12-22 from the free throw line. Towson always plays physical (just like their men) and they got home cooking from the refs. Zero fouls were called on Towson in the second quarter! Every drive by Towson was a blocking call on W&M and every drive by the Tribe was a charge.

Shake it off and practice free throws. Still tied for second place.

Edit: A&T went on to beat Delaware so they are in second place at 4-1. The Tribe and two others are tied for 3rd at 4-2. Campbell beat Stony Brook so the Tribe is still only 1 game out of first.

Nice win over Hofstra. Game was tied after Q1, the Tribe led by 1 at the half, the game was tied after Q3, and the Tribe played its usual great defense in Q4 to pull away at 61-50. If the Tribe could hold down their turnovers then they could be really good!

Geddes absolutely took that game over in the 4th with 17 of her 22 points.

I hope we can keep Geddes around. As a freshman, already has the team leader look, poise, and scoring ability. Future CAA 1st teamer.

I'm liking the freshman backcourt of Geddes and Dance. They look the part and pair well with each other

With a 5 year old daughter (and her 7 year old brother) we're going to our first in-person women's game today!
