Cubucks, I get your top 4. I don’t personally think OSU is the best team in the country, but they have the best resume to date so I have no issue with this. Georgia and Michigan haven’t played good schedules, so using that as a factor I get them being lower for now. Florida State has some good wins and some bad wins (BC), so that limits them. Washington also has a great win and a great offense, but no defense.
All of that is a way of saying I get most of your rankings, even though I think the CFP committee got it right last night. But Alabama? What have they done except look really shaky all season?
Fair question about Alabama.
No matter what site or metric you look at, their schedule is strong. Offensively, they have been good, but, Defensively, that have performed really well to their schedule. You're right, they have looked shaky, but I simply use numbers I've set up and it spits out the rankings. I think my setup is fair and it changes drastically by the week. I personally believe, even if Ewers is healthy, that Alabama would beat Texas today.
Michigan will be top 4 if they win out with my rankings. As of today, I have no clue, but they may even be there if they lose to Ohio State. The numbers I use are impacted 0% by what you did last year, Georgia, or the eye test. Eye test can't be too bad for Alabama because their performance compared to their sos is saying they are really good.
Also, teams are penalized strongly for losses, and even stronger for what's considered a bad loss. Alabama, Texas, Oklahoma, Penn State and Missouri are all 1 loss teams that are still very much alive for the CFP with my system. Tennessee, Utah, and LSU are long shots with 2 losses.
Some folks will surely say I'm biased with tOSU at #1, but it's truly what my numbers say and there is actually a pretty big gap between them and Georgia. That WILL change as Georgia's sos improves as long as they continue to perform strong.
