## 2023-4 AAC WBB Thread:UAB in Alaska; Mem in Bahamas##
Nice Sunday after a rough Saturday in WBB!

Down in the Bahamas:
Memphis 52-43 over Howard

Up in Alaska:
UAB 63-52 vs Alaska-Anchorage

We won BOTH North/South battles:
SoFlo 56-55 over NoFlo*
North Texas 79-73 over S. Illinois

Two more struggled against lesser competition but still prevailed:
Rice 73-62 beat St.Mary’s
Tulane 64-58 over Mercer

Our only AAC loss was
Temple 62-90 at Villanova

Will definitely take 6-1 for the day despite maybe wishing for more comfortable margins in some of those Ws.

*NoFlo might be for real, coming within 1 of SoFlo and taking FAU to OT earlier this week… they were also with 6 points at the half at Florida in their opener.

As Memphis continues in the Battle 4 Atlantis down in the Bahamas tonight (with, guess who? a rematch against our old frens MTSU!) they are joined in-country and in-town by ECU kicking off the Baha Mar Pink Flamingo Championship*

*-editors note: we could make these up, but in this case we didn’t.

ECU has 13th ranked Ohio State. So not expecting a win in either Bahamas game tonight… but sure rooting for one, or two!

Another big opponent is faced by 3-1 UTSA on the road at 4-0 Texas Tech

Lady Bulls not having a good “Paradise Jam” tourney.

Lost last night 66-49 to Arizona State
Tonight #12 Texas leads 33-6 mid 2Q.

At least their opening game vs High Point was a keeper… 61-32 USF win on Thursday.

This is our worst team in awhile. Lots of newcomers and our top three pointer and scorer isn’t playing. We lack good bigs inside that we have had past few years.

Tulsa blows open a tied game at halftime with a 23-10 3Q and is finishing off Clemson at home.

Tulane just missed upsetting #9 Virginia Tech 70-76. Close game all the way and the Wave led at halftime.

And in the Owl… Cup…
Kennesaw runs away from FAU 57-43.
FAU is more of a mbb school anyway.

Amber Johnson has the AAC projected as a 1-bid league (North Texas)

https://www.ncaa.com/news/basketball-wom...nth-season

No current AAC teams are in the AP top 25 or receiving votes.

No former AAC teams are in the AP Top Ten. (UConn-11 and Louisville-22 are both down from last season)

Tulsa and UNT are the only two teams with significant positive movement in the Massey Ratings. Everyone else is flat or down this week.

Considering we have a new coach, I have to apologize and say this will be a rebuilding year for the Lady Tigers. Looking forward to our other programs representing the league well this season.

South Florida 6-3 (76, -16)
Had most of the week off after a rough Paradise Jam tournament that ended with a 76-44 loss to Texas. Did TCB at home Thursday night against Charleston Southern. The Bulls have another 10 days off before resuming action and hopefully getting back to full strength to welcome #5 NC State to Tampa mid month.

North Texas 7-1 (90, +9)
Solid week to pass SMU and Memphis in the Massey.
Mean Green just destroyed Pepperdine 74-57 last night after trailing at halftime by 9 and by double digits early in the 2H. Pepperdine was first to 40 (40-31) but was still stuck in the 40s after a 31-9 run erased the deficit and put the game away for UNT.
North Texas beat Samford and North Dakota in a Hattiesburg MS tournament, but their best win this season is earlier at 117 Stephen F Austin.

UNT hosts a couple of smaller programs next week before a road trip to Louisiana and Montana State closes their OOC.

Until USF gets their top scorer and three point shooter back. They are not going to beat good teams as they have in past.

Don’t give up yet. All 5 L’s are to top programs. There is time for the Tigers to find their legs and make some noise in conference.

We lost to Auburn 72-62 today. Only quarter Auburn outscored us was in the 2nd. Respectable showing against a 6-2 Auburn squad. Only decent OOC team left is Nichols on the road, who beat Tulane by 3 & lost to SMU. We should be 8-3 at worst heading into AAC play.

This North Texas team continues to be a wonderful surprise. Coach Burton is proving to be an amazing hire so far.
