It appears Army going to the AAC will either need Wake or Syracuse needing opponents next year. Liberty should definitely be on the phone with them. Buy out or move the 2024/25 UMASS series.

We have 3 P5 opponents next year, Georgia, Missouri, and Mississippi State. Hard to say what is going to happen with Army's rescheduling and for that matter if UMass joins for full membership.

Did not know UMASS was up for CUSA?

I’m hoping for a full invite for UMass. Could it possibly be effective for the 2024 season?

Best case scenario, yes. But it might be hard, or just financially painful, to dump a whole schedule that quickly,

The sticky point is the 5 schedule MAC teams. The other 3 do not look like major issues. Perhaps can trade Georgia to Liberty or push it out. Liberty and Army would take care of themselves.

Liberty would only want Mississippi State and maybe Missouri. If your a true contender you want nothing to do with UGA. Almost certain defeat and could be bad even for a good G5 team.

Need to schedule a Virginia, Wake, Va Tech, Rutgers, Vandy or same type P2 or M2 team.

I agree. A former Liberty coach Sam Rutigliano once said you never want to schedule a P5 that results in a loss the following week due to injuries from the P5 game. WKU may have experienced that against Ohio State.

ACC teams are a good bet for P5 wins. The eastern SBC and AAC teams get those wins all the time. It's not the same as SEC or Big10 wins but its atill a P5 win. The bottom half of the ACC are typically no better than most G5 programs.

Does anyone know why Liberty kept UMass on the schedule instead of the South Carolina game? Looks like Jacksonville St took that slot instead.

Liberty had just beaten BYU and Arkansas and lost to Wake Forest by a point so the rest of the P5s on upcoming schedules wanted out. They only scheduled LU when we were transitioning and thought LU was a guaranteed win. Liberty also needed to end about 8-9 contracts per season going from independent to CUSA so LU had no choice but to allow them to leave the contract. On the other hand, Liberty was able to help some other CUSA teams find some pay games they needed.

The ACC commissioner sent out the following directive forbidding ACC teams to play G5 road games. Liberty had home games scheduled against Wake, UNC, UVa that are now gone.

Will answer 2 points. Guessing, Liberty kept us on the schedule for 2 reasons. We were the first FBS team to schedule Liberty and broke the ice for scheduling. We share the same Athletic Director as well. Regard Gemofthehills, no way we would trade a P4 home and home. Other than Mississippi State can think of no other P4 scheduling on campus. Miss St is the completion of a 2-1. Would need to double check, but believe so.

They can keep UGA haha only SEC teams I would want us to face in the regular season is USC, Mizzou, Kentucky, Miss St, Arkansas, and MAYBE Auburn and UF. Ole Miss would probably be fun to watch with them being strong offensivley and weak defensively like LU, but even then we could not keep up with them due to their size and talent difference on defense.

Getting out of the 5 MAC games is the only issue. We can tell UConn, who loves to schedule P4 opponents. Hey, we can either cancel the game at UMass or you can take UGA.03-wink

IF (if) UMASS joins (all sports), IMO FB part would not start till fall '25.

Too many contracts to get out of--TOO soon.

2025 will be tough enough.

I 100% agree, but I have doubts Syracuse or Wake would schedule us. Political hacks and journalists at Syracuse complained every game of our 3 game series because they did not want Syracuse playing Liberty. Were really mad at their athletic director. There is some bad blood between Wake Forest and Liberty after Wake canceled our games in 2025-2026, which was not supported by Liberty.

If we can't get those, a home and home with Marshall would be good. They also will lose Army games, as will Tulsa.

I'd like to give some of our UMass games to Kennesaw State, who will need games.

I'm not sure I'd consider them "P5" anymore, but OSU and WSU might be looking for lots of OOC opponents in the near future.

Isn’t it funny. One minute you’re considwred a power team, and through no fault of your own, the next you’re not. Shows how fickle the public is and what a sham college athletics have become.

Or the other way, like SMU buying their way into the ACC. Or the new Big 12 teams.

I guess the most accurate way to label them all along would have been what they kind of used to pitch. "Access 5" instead of "Power 5."
