RE: ***Official Game Thread: UAB 42 North Texas 45 FINAL*** ESPN+
Going into the off-season after winning two games back to back feels good but something has to give on the defense. Either Caponi needs to take his 3-3-5 gimmick elsewhere or he needs to adopt a different scheme and figure out how to hit running backs before they are in the secondary every play.

You have a solid foundation to build on next season. And I have to admit, I questioned the Dilfer hire. But, he looks like he will be a very solid coach for you guys. I think the future of the AAC is bright for both of us.
Do you really believe that, or are you just being polite? I've seen nothing yet to convince me he's the right guy for UAB. The Blazers finished 7-6 last year, and are 4-8 this year. They faced four common opponents both years, going 2-2 against them last year, and 1-3 against them this year. That includes UNT btw. They beat you guys by 20 last year in Birmingham, but lost to you this year in Denton.
I just don't know how you can have such a positive outlook when you look at the data. I hope you're right, but I'm definitely not seeing it yet.
UAB didn't play like a 4 win team today. I think they are going to be a good team in the coming years. The AAC schedule was a step up this year, and they had a losing record. But, they have some QB, RB, and WR's. And, I like Dilfer's intensity. Their defense is questionable, but compared to ours, they're outstanding. I only expected Dilfer to win about 2 or 3 games this year. So in my opinion, the 4 wins was a positive. I really had a low bar for the guy.
I figured you'd bring up their AAC schedule this year vs. C-USA last year, but that's why I compared the common opponents (FAU, UNT, UTSA, Georgia Southern) between the two years, which they did worse against this year. The only team they did better against this year than last was FAU, but FAU (without comparing common opponents) were 5-7 last year and only 4-8 this year themselves. Heck, UTSA had to go to 2OT to beat UAB 44-38 last year, and we only beat 'em 34-31 the year before that. This year's score was 41-20.
It seems to me that if you expected UAB to win only 2 or 3 games this year after going 7-6 last year, your opinion of Dilfer was probably too low, just as your opinion of UAB moving forward is probably now too high. I mean, you predicted 2 or 3, and they won 4..lol. And that's after winning seven last year. Seriously, dude. We'll agree to disagree, but again, I hope I'm wrong on this one.
Did you take a look at what we replaced, or just look at our schedule? There is a lot more to a this year vs that year comparison, and I don’t believe you are looking at all the facts either.
