Greg Sankey went on GameDay to explicitly advocate for the SEC's inclusion in the CFP
Meanwhile, Kirk Herbstreit (alongside Sankey at SEC Ground Zero in the ATL) used his considerable platform Saturday morning to remind viewers it was "the best four teams" the committee was tasked with selecting.

Jim Phillips, for his part, issued a 99-word statement following the ACC championship late Saturday night — some 12 hours after Sankey (and Herbstreit) delivered their "joint" messages.

Could or should have Phillips been more proactive with his messaging instead of letting Sankey and Co. get out front?

Why not tell your exclusive media partner, "I'd like to come on GameDay and speak to one of schools being more than deserving of a CFP sport should it finish the season undefeated."

What was ESPN gonna do in that scenario? Tell Phillips no?

Best four teams vs most deserving for teams. This debate is cracking me up. It’s essentially saying do you prefer power rankings from a committee or on the field results? The 12 team playoff can’t get here any faster.

Whether the fourth spot goes to Georgia, Texas, or Alabama, Sankey can claim a W for the SEC.

Give the man a hanky and tell him to sit down.

RE: Greg Sankey went on GameDay ...
Greg Sankey was pro-active.

Even brought in his loud-mouthed friends at ESPN to amplify his pointed message.

Jim Phillips, with his by-the-numbers statement at darn near midnight, not so much

If (and I do believe it's possible) FSU gets left out, it's more than fair for Nole fans to ask why "their commissioner" was hiding under a rock while Sankey was using ESPN's bully pulpit

It did help that Gameday was in Atlanta for the game. Best Phillips can do would be either to appear via video from Charlotte or drive to Atlanta and then back to Charlotte for the ACC Championship game.

FSU is not currently a top 4 team, but you cannot leave them out. They gutted through the season and won their games.

IMHO

Exactly. Florida State beat every team they faced this season, no matter what or how. And they won the ACC title game as a TEAM. People seem to forget this is a team sport. Yes, QB play matters, but that's just one aspect of the game.

Seems you might need to reconsider who is doing the worse job as Commissoner?
The ACC should pursue your favorite Commissioner Judy.

Speaking as someone who thinks Alabama should've been in over TCU last season, I see no real argument for Alabama this year.

And I'm not an SEC hater but it's downright karmic that one of the biggest opponents of playoff expansion is going to have all of their teams left out.

Well if Sankey was better at working with people, maybe he would have convinced Phillips or Kliavcoff or Warren not to blow up the 12 team playoff for 2023 and we wouldn't be having this debate.

A definite step up from the current boss

But why would Judy leave CUSA and "a future that's even brighter than the present" for that sinking ship?

Well, while they were not enthused, they liked the money enough that they were on board with the 12 team playoff. It was the Pac 12, Big 10, ACC alliance that stopped the playoff from being implemented this year.
