Keeping the B1G out of SEC territory most certainly is of interest to the SEC.

...and the first salvo has been fired. This will be an interesting development for the ACC.

Good God maybe I'm reading this wrong but it sounds like 'as of 2027' the media deal ends with ESPN's exclusive right to extended beyond 2027 to 2036. As of today the court filing by Florida State ESPN has not extended the media deal past 2027. Why? This is going to be very interesting if I'm reading this correctly. In other words how do you extend a grant of rights to 2036 when there's no media deal legally in place. Is ESPN in on this?

I think you read that wrong. The tv deal expires in 2036. Espn has until 2027 to extend it further

Read that tweet again. The media deal expires in 2027 and ESPN can extend it from 2027-36 which has not happened at this time. There is no guaranteed revenue beyond 2027 as of today.

Florida State is going to throw everything at the wall and hope something sticks. And then try to force the ACC to negotiate on the GOR and exit fees.

They will charge the previous ACC league office with incompetence. With violating their fiduciary responsibility to its member schools. With violating Florida state law. And probably with ending Christmas. Lawyers at the Tallahassee circuit court can say anything they want.

Re your specific question, in 2012 the ACC signed a GOR contract that ended on June 30th, 2027. In 2016, the deal was extended to 2036 season and ESPN agreed to launch the ACC Network. https://www.wralsportsfan.com/here-s-a-c.../20361234/

"WRAL obtained a copy of the ACC's 2013 Grant of Rights agreement, which was based on a contract extension between the ACC and ESPN dated May 9, 2012. The agreement covers all 15 current league schools, runs through June 30, 2027 and was signed by former UNC Chancellor H. Holden Thorp on April 19, 2013.

In 2016, the ACC extended its grant of rights through the 2035-36 academic year as part of a 20-year agreement with ESPN that included the launch of the ACC Network. WRAL does not have a copy of any amended grant of rights agreement."

Not true. You really need to stop listening to the FSU lawyers and just read the documents.

The ACC GOR rights with its member schools is distinct from the contract the conference has with ESPN. SMH

I don’t think it means squat to the SEC & certainly not an additional 40-50 million per year, which is what it would cost ESPN to move them from the ACC.

And quite honestly, I would imagine there is already a signifiant amount of Big 10 interest in Florida, given the number of midwestern transplants in the state.

And the child wants to start another argument.

For the rational thinkers on the board, this move by FSU is roughly the equivalent of Leslie Ballin going to court on a Friday night seeking an injunction so that James Wiseman can play in the Oregon game the next week. Except what FSU is doing is even a more transparent media game, and it's just a complaint, not an injunction.

We have opposing opinions. Not the end of the world, and certainly not uncommon.

The SEC has always wanted new contiguous states when they expand. Except for Texas. Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, A&M . . .

North Carolina would be both the SEC and Big10 first choice, if UNC was available, which they aren't.

Coming from someone who can't comprehend the difference between the GOR and ESPN's media contract with the ACC...
