Getting beat by 22 by Umass, ouch.

Agree. When I look at the players individually I see very athletic young men. This does not translate however into a cohesive team.

I don’t disagree. When I look the individual guys, I’m surprised we are this bad. We have talent, but we don’t have the right pieces (including coaching and admin) to be a good team. Almost all of these guys are legit D1 caliber players. But we need them on a cohesive team, with some inside players. The 5-12 team had a coaching problem to go with a lack of talent, but at least we had guys who could play the necessary positions in basketball. But the fact that we are even comparing the two is sad. Wood letting it get this bad when it was so clear this was happening two years ago is complete incompetence. He should be embarrassed. I am, and I’m just a fan.

Any hopes of this team being decent were vanquished after the W&M game. Just watching now to see if we have any hope for next year.

This year is irrelevant to next year. Most of our best players will enter the portal. If we don’t get a new coach (and maybe AD) nothing will change no matter who comes in. And if we start the rebuild, we probably won’t get our good recruits either. The only good thing is the new coach can utilize the portal to try and build a competent team of mostly new guys for next year.

Don’t forget how weak, the sunbelt basketball is this season.

If this team wins 13 or 14 games in conference, I will be SHOCKED.

This is as bad of an odu team as I can remember. Been watching for over 30 years. Somebody said this team has a lot more talent than the 5-25 team. I’m not soo sure… that team had Deshawn Painter, Aaron Bacote, Dimitri Batten. Keenan Palmore, Richard Ross. At least that team had a couple forwards, There were some decent players on that team. I’m pretty sure this team will win more than 5 games but not too much more. Even though the Sun belt stinks… they probably go 0-4 against JMU/App st. So 9-9 in conference might be optimistic to be honest. I could see this team being in the bottom half of a crappy Sunbelt.

This team won’t win 14 games total. No way. 9-9 in conference at the best.

This team is reminding me of how bad we were in the Tom Young days. But at least he had Chris Gatlin which at least made them fun to watch even though we were losing. This team is so badly undersized it just doesn’t seem like we have a chance. You know we are not going to shoot it well and just don’t have the size to compete in the paint. Jason Wade gives it his best and I admire his spunk but he is even less of a threat to score than Denzel Taylor was and he can’t rebound against any real size. It’s really discouraging at this point.

We have nothing in the front court, no skill big or a guy to get his hands dirty. Backcourt we have some talent. The key stats tonight, ODU 7 assist vs UMass 19, that is a min 24 pts. Too much AAU ball. Also how does a guard heavy team shoots 12% (2-15) from 3.

ODU's lack of size, talent, and depth in the front court has been an issue for too many seasons under Jeff and the results reflect that.

Umass is a good team, top 100 quality but we should be more competitive.

I just want to take a second to recognize what you said. 13-5 or 14-4 in conference is crazy. That what we used to expect, and now it’s crazy. That’s where we are.

100% agree on Pounds and Allette. Pounds looks to have a big upside and certainly Allette does. I’d kind of like to see Odiahi get some more time on the floor as well. He looks lost at times and doesn’t look ready but we have nothing to lose. Maybe he could develop into a serviceable big.

Jones seems to think going small gives the team the best chance of winning.

I would argue going as big as possible with the available talent does the exact same thing.
