Miami does not belong in a P2.

Rutgers continues its vindication tour by beating yet another old BE foe who took off for the ACC and left us behind to wither and die.

It was 54 degrees today. I’ve been to three Pinstripe Bowls and it’s never been particularly cold.

To someone like me, that's warm enough for shorts, but I'm also not from Florida.

The issues here went beyond "cold weather."

You already handily won that contest when it comes to conference membership, and today you won on the field as well!

Hell of a ball game. Obviously Miami was missing chips, but we just out willed VaTech and Miami even though we probably had just as much talent given the opponents’ circumstances.

The two of you f’ed up a good thing. Congrats to your presidents and TV partners. I am hoping there is a Super League breakaway sooner than later so we can actually get more competitive games like this throughout the season. A mid tier division would bear the vestiges of the Big East conference and other conferences before. The M2 just don’t need to be playing football at the National Championship level.

So true. It would be among the top 5-10 upsets of all-time and constantly cited as a historic upset today.

Makes me think of 2002! I was at a Lehigh vs Fordham (Dave Clawson!) football game in the Bronx the same day Miami was playing Rutgers "nearby". During the course of the game the Fordham PA announcer kept providing updates on #1 Miami vs Rutgers and amazingly the 1-8 Scarlet Knights were hanging in! (back then prior to cell phones stadium updates were great in terms of reactions!) In fact, Rutgers led 17-14 going into the 4th quarter! Then proceeded to get outscored 28-0 in the 4th quarter and lost 42-17....

Yes, I talk about this game often with my older cousin. The names on that Miami team…04-jawdrop

I watched the game on TV with Dave Sims making the call. We blocked a punt to go up 17-7, similar to today. Then gave up a crucial drive before the half where Dorsey was sensational. Rest is history.

It really shows what Schiano (rhymes with piano) has done to build RU into an actual program. Similarly, Al Golden did this at Temple, but without a major conference affiliation it's a much tougher situation to sustain. Rutgers and Temple were atrocious in the 90's into the early 2000's.

I was at the 2002 game. 40’ and raining. Miami had never won a game in weather that bad before. We had a kickoff return for a TD called back on a phantom holding call. We couldn’t get the momentum back after that.

Schiano rhymes with piano. I heard the little controversy on a possible different pronunciation of his last name. As a Pisano from NJ, the only other possible pronunciation would be Ski-ano, because in Italian a C is pronounced soft like a S unless followed by a H, which makes it a hard C. The Shy-ano pronunciation was some made up merican bull****.

Always nice to see teams achieve something new, and Rutgers finally beats Miami for the first time - they were 0-11 all-time against the Hurricanes while both played in the old Big East. They never lost to Miami by less than two touchdowns in those prior 11 games.

You should really revisit those scores back in the BE. There were a few 7, 8 and 9 TD wins back then. But I will agree, Rutgers has been very good under Schiano 1 and 2. Schiano is a great coach.

Schiano has always been a good coach. If he didn't have the stink of Paterno on him, he'd be a head coach in the NFL again right now, or at least of a big Brand in the college ranks.

Funny how Schiano has been mostly forgiven for knowing about a child predator on the loose and saying nothing, while Art Briles is still so radioactive nearly a decade later that he can't even go onto a field after a game in a different State to say hi to his brother in law without causing a ruckus. Apparently giving very athletic kids 2nd or 3rd chances is a lot worse than keeping your mouth shut about actual crimes. And people wonder why schools don't release the full details of investigations.

Well, you have been fortunate! I have attended two Pinstripe Bowls, one of them was the coldest game I have ever experienced - and this coming from a guy who lives in Maine!

A very good bowl that I enjoyed attending, despite the cold!

Envious! I have always thought it would be very cool to see a bowl game in Yankees stadium.

BTW, I see you had a cold experience at the 2017 Pinstripe Bowl. I had a similar experience that year at the Military Bowl (Annapolis), played on December 28.

IIRC, it was about 21 degrees or something at kickoff, real temperature not wind chill, just bitterly cold for Annapolis. I was frozen solid and had to leave in the second quarter because my wife couldn't take it any more. Truth is, if she hadn't asked to leave I would have soon after, LOL. We were both bundled from head to toe, with multiple pairs of socks, everything, and yet we were literally freezing our arses off. It was clear by then that the game was over, Navy was ahead I think 21-7 over Virginia and UVA was looking for the heaters too, LOL.

Have never *felt* colder in my life, and I have gone out for walks in Flagstaff, AZ in December at 6 AM, when the temperature was literally zero degrees. But for some reason this felt colder.
