Go Irish, but I assume they are missing a lot more players than PAC2 leftbehind OS

Irish down 16 players from opt outs, draft declarations and transfers.

Looking good except for the missed 50 yard FG.

Oregon State is missing 11 starters, seven on offense and four on defense. They are missing their kicker, top two quarterbacks, their two-time first team All-Pac-12 running back (suspended DUI), and their head coach. Their second-team All-Pac-12 tight end transferred, their first-team All-Pac-12 right tackle opted-out for the NFL. The head coach took six of his assistants with him to Michigan State.

ND is missing their star QB and star left tackle, who is a likely top 10 draft pick, among others. So i would say the talent loss is pretty equal

I just feel bad for Oregon State. After everything the program has endured the last 4-5 weeks this is rubbing salt in the wound. It also helps to enforce a false narrative about their competency. Sadly, it was inevitable....

I will always have a soft spot for OSU and WSU. K-State is a similar type school so I understand the social dynamics that are at play. Even a school like Mississippi State walks a fine-line these days....

ND is also missing RB Audric Estime and its four top receivers.

A win puts ND at 10-3, its 6th double digit win season out of the last 7 seasons ( ND was 9-4 last year).

73-17 since 2016.

But can they beat A&M in College Station to start 2024? Or will the seat immediately heat up on Freeman?

As a fellow ND fan, I can't help but think next year is going to be quite similar. Which honestly, in this day in age is fine with me.

Oregon State missing the top two quarterbacks, their top offensive lineman, their top tight end, and their top running back is challenging enough. Maybe that is close to equal. But when they are also missing their head coach and six assistants, it is a bit more challenging.

That was the reverse-Fiesta Bowl from the BCS era 20+ years ago.

Forgot about Estime, he was a beast for us, over 1300 yards and 18 TDs this year.

Overall, ND was missing six players ranked in the 24/7 top 125 NFL draft prospects. Oregon State was missing just one. So with each team missing 10 or so starters, Notre Dame was missing a lot more actual talent, IMO.

And yet ... 40-8!

And not nearly as relevant to a talented team as for a team with less depth to lose half their starters

Bowl games should not affect the final polls. This game is a perfect example why. This loss should catapult OSU out of the top 25, which isn’t right based on their season.

Notre Dame concludes 2023 with a 3-0 record against the PAC (USC, Stanford and Oregon State) by an average margin of victory of over 30 points.
