Kansas basketball and Michigan football have a combined 7 titles in the AP Poll era
The winningest program in their respective sports have a combined 7 titles, including 2 in the last 2 years and 3 in the last 16. Not including 1936-38 for Kansas, where there was no NCAA Tournament, that's a combined 171 seasons yet 7 titles.

Hard to fathom, isn't it? You'd figure that with as many dominant teams as they've produced, they'd have at least 7 apiece.

Maybe I should say 170 combined seasons since there was no NCAA Tournament in 2020 and Kansas was the clear favorite to win it all and lock for top overall seed.

Even with that, that would be 8 overall.

Unclear what you are trying to say here? UConn and Bama have more combined?

If basketball didn't have a 68-team tournament, Kansas would have a lot more titles.

Kansas has earned 11 #1 seeds under Bill Self. If there was a four-team playoff, they'd probably have at least one more title under Self and they'd have won at least one under Roy Williams.

I still think Kansas should've claimed a title for the Covid year. In the absence of a tournament, being #1 in both polls based on judging their entire body of work would've been completely legitimate. Oh well.

These are great, dominant, powerful and well supported programs. They should have a lot more than 4 (and 3) titles over the last 75 years or so, at least you'd think.

lol I kinda wanted us to. That team winning the title was a given. We were just on another level than everyone that year.

Besides Michigan, Theres 10-15 all-time great programs with claims to many titles during that time. Michigan might be the most consistently good or great program overall but they have lots of competition any given year.

But 3 titles in 76 years, including nearly 50 years between any title and 75 between outright titles is a long time for the winningest program of all time. It's odd.
