268 in KenPom. Really close to where we finished when we were 5-25.

Does this include today's loss, our second to a sub-300 team.

Yes, but today’s win brings Coastal up to 300 on the nose!

We aren’t the worst team in the conference. So there’s something.

I cant take it anymore either. First time in 30 years I haven’t followed the team closely every game. I just check the scores later and read the comments here after the inevitable losses.

At this point, it's only a debate about which turd is cleaner.

RE: ODU @ Coastal Carolina 1/13/24
Unfortunately I watched the game, guess there is still some hope that I’ll see something good happen. I also understand it’s easy to second guess things after another loss but there is something that just drives me crazy . If we are going to continue to play a small lineup and we are playing a bigger team that has a tendency to turn the ball over why can’t we throw full court pressure on them and really speed them up? Jones teams have never liked to change up much on defense but it sure does look like this was a team that that we could forced into a heap of turnovers. Even the announcers were expecting it before we finally tried it with about 1:20 left in the game and forced a TO. We certainly have the depth at guard .

And if we are not going to do that, why not try playing Pounds and Odiahi together for a couple of sets? If somebody says we are not quick enough to play them together I don’t buy that because watching Pounds he looks as quick to me as any big forward that CC had on the floor. I also don’t think it could hardly hurt our offense because Wade gives us nothing on that end of the floor other than a few passes from the high post. Odiahi may not be the answer in the middle but at least he gives us some size and appears to be pretty athletic. His upside has got to be a lot more than Wade’s and this team is going nowhere regardless of who plays. Pounds looks athletic enough to play the floor and could maybe hit a few shots facing the basket. He is not a low post threat.

I keep watching this team and remembering what a college coach told me this summer when I asked him what he thought the problem was with ODU last season and he said that Jones team was the easiest team in the conference to prepare for. This team is not going to win much but it sure seems we let one get away tonight. If we tried something different like full court pressure I guess we might lose. Lol

I don't get why Odiahi doesn't get minutes. Yeah, he is pretty useless offensively, but as you said, so is Wade, but he definitely makes a difference on the defensive end as a rim protector when he is on the floor and he has the potential to get some offensive boards. He doesn't look like a dude that should be getting almost no minutes on a team that has a 6'3" dude playing center.

In Blaine’s 5 wins, I don’t think any of the wins were against D-3 teams and he was living with a mind boggling disease.

I agree. I said the same thing before the last three seasons started. With the team they have this season there is very little reason not to be going for steals in the back court and mid court. It's easier to imagine that they would be doing better than it is to imagine that they would be doing worse if they were using an aggressive full court press from the start. If a team was easily handling it then they could always revert back to just using the same half court 'defense' that they are currently using.

Completely agree. With our total lack of being able to play defense in the half court we should definitely press. Hell, it might actually get the guys to play really hard on defense. Our only chance to stop anyone is to turn them over. I say all of this and I am usually totally against pressing in basketball, but why the hell not? We have to remember that this would take some coaching, and strategizing which this staff can’t accomplish.
