He was doing really good at TSU. It seemed like a good niche for him, still can't figure out why he left or didn't go to a slight upgrade in the Southland or at Sam. He routinely had TSU in the Dance.

No doubt he is kicking himself for not staying at TSU or at least in that region.

Detroit is DePaul with a different last 4-5 letters.

Worst than that. Then again, remember, they were a winning team as recently as last year. They have some history, they're not exactly Chicago State.

If the Horizon gets tired of them, they can be the Midwest travel partner for Chicago State in the NEC.

Coincidentally, Davis had former Chicago State head coach Tracy Dildy on staff as an assistant at Detroit for a number of years.

Not sure what happened to Davis at UAB, but IMO that was a great fit and I remember him being successful.

IIRC, he led UAB to more losing seasons than they had all time at the time of his firing in his relatively short tenure. I mean they weren't much below .500, including 15-16 one year but that's a tough standard to live up to if you're not winning.

He had two seasons of 15-16 bookending seasons with 23, 22, 25, and 22 wins. There must have been something else afoot, because those are not numbers to be fired at UAB over.

Great assistant at Illinois State and Michigan. He was lead assistant at Illinois State when they were the last team out of the tournament in 2017, and then at Michigan when they were national runner-up in 2018,

Great person. He started out as a history teacher/basketball coach at a Joliet High School around the late 2000s/early 2010s and soared up the ladder quickly. UIC is a DePaul/Detroit-esque graveyard job.

Just IMHO, but sometimes being a university immersed in a big city is not the best environment. Agree with your assessment of UIC, but also look at DePaul. It was/is good at WBB because Doug Bruno has been there forever. It WAS good with the Meyers and their old-school approach. But you can see today in their attendance/draw ... UIC has never been a basketball-first school, like Marquette, Butler, Xavier, Villanova and Creighton, and its focus is on trying to academically be the University of Illinois, only not in Champaign-Urbana. DePaul was bball-first but lost it sans any Meyers (the late Dad was an alumnus). Even Loyola-Chicago is having its problems, despite 2018. DePaul and Loyola have some cachet; UIC does not.

Surprised UIC is a "basketball graveyard". Looks like they've got a decent arena. I have a Sherell Ford card from back in the day and that is the only way I ever knew anything about them.

It looks nice in pictures because of the chairbacks but if you go in-person it looks really, really old. They typically close off access to the upper deck. It’s hockey sightlines because the Pavilion was originally for UIC Circle hockey. Also, the videoboard is at one end and very far from the court.

UIC is a very tough job, even more so now in the Valley as opposed to the Horizon League. Yaklich will be a prime candidate for a lead assistant in the B1G, no doubt. If I'm Jake Diebler, and I get the OSU job (which he deserves IMO), then I hire a Yaklich for a lead assistant role. I'm confident that Yak lands on his feet somewhere.

Coaching Changes reported late last night that they heard Moser was going to be headed to DePaul. I guess we will see if that one comes true or not.

I’ve met Mrs Moser before. Very nice, down-to-earth, and welcoming. I could definitely see the scrutiny of a job like Oklahoma stressing her and wanting to come back home.

I agree. I loved seeing TSU make the Big Dance under his tenure. Plus, I can't help but root for them since they let us use their hoops arena for our hoops programs while the Fertitta Center was being built/renovated. Thanks, Tigers.

The size and guaranteed length of that contract would have to choke a horse.

Moser just tweeted out there’s no truth to the rumors about DePaul.

Guess he realized he’s still too young to take a career ending chance on a job like DePaul.

That said, I could never root for TS-Who, especially over PV. 04-rock03-nutkick

Speaking of that, we could use the name and publicity he can bring to PV. So I want him. After all, we had Cynthia Cooper (not using her real name, it's almost like a bad joke for the ignorant).

Well, it doesn't hurt that I have a couple buddies who went to TSU either. *shrugs* Also, fair enough. Hope you (PV) get him. He's a good coach.

But is there smoke that he's not wanting to hang around Oklahoma for much longer? So, maybe not DePaul now, but, some other Midwestern/Heartland location?

Moser/OU splitting seems like one of those mutually beneficial partings.
