WBB vs. Memphis
Basically an entire quarter of weird zone defense that looked awful and disorganized. I'm assuming it's because Memphis can't shoot, but it wasn't pretty. Just trust your team to play man-to-man.

RE: WBB vs. Memphis
At any given point we've got 2-4 players on the floor who the opponent really just doesn't have to guard. It's proving to be problematic today. We can get away with it sometimes when we're playing good defense...but we've been bad on that end. 25-19 Memphis.

Bokunewicz into the game for the first time at the 3:30 mark in the 2nd quarter. As far as I can tell, Hayes hasn't played yet.

Also shout out to ESPN for doing picture-in-picture replays. Means we're not missing 5-10 seconds of the game at a time.

RE: WBB vs. Memphis
Bad, bad, bad two quarters of basketball. Defense has been porous, things not running smoothly offensively, weird sub patterns again. Need another turnaround. Memphis up 35-28 at the half.

She's not on the bench...

I am speechless. No ball movement. Too much standing around. We deserve to loose.

45-32 Memphis. No ability to defend right now.

RE: WBB vs. Memphis
Memphis' ability to make contested baskets is the difference in this game. It's another game showcasing our lack of playmakers. Those runners or contested layups, Memphis is making them. In this quarter alone we've missed three open to wide open layups.

RE: WBB vs. Memphis
Just back from the game (before returning for the MBB in a couple hours). That was probably one of the worst, one-sided (favoring Memphis) officiated games I've ever witnessed. At one point mid-way through the 4Q, before the refs finally called some fouls on Memphis when the game was virtually out of reach, we had 23 personal fouls called on his vs. only 9 for Memphis...and Memphis was fouling off-ball on almost every one of our possessions and fouling over the back on almost every rebound (with none being called until the final 3 minutes of the game). Edmonds had every right to be upset, but the double technical call on her mid-way through the 3Q when we had closed the gap to 7 points, was beyond ridiculous. Pera reacts much worse multiple times a game without even one technical being called on him. Giving Memphis 4 FTs and the ball essentially put the game away.

Having said that, with Fisher and Hayes out we had absolutely no interior defense. Memphis scored at will in the paint and they dominated us on the boards. Offensively, Memphis' physical play (which the refs allowed) provided almost no open looks the entire game. And as others have already pointed out, with Malia and Shelby out, they really didn't have to worry about our post offense. Adams is next to hopeless on offense (yes, she finally made some drives late, but the game was already over by then), and Samba can't hold onto the ball on passes or rebounds.

With regards to injuries, still no word on what's up with Jazzy, but Malia is in concussion protocol (she was wearing sunglasses on the bench) and Hayes apparently broke her ankle and wasn't even in attendance (or, at least, not on the bench). That's 3 of our top 7 players, and our two best interior players, out.

RE: WBB vs. Memphis
I didnt know about Hayes. I assume she is out for the season? I thought Sussy Ngulefac played well considering she has been out for so long and played limited minutes. She definately more athletic then Saamb and a better rebounder.
I did not understand why Klaczek did not start instead of Adams. She did make 17 points the previous game and why were there not more plays set up for Ennis? Everything looked out of sinc.

Malia took a hard fall in the USF game (or maybe it was Charlotte). You could tell it was a rough one. I hope she can come back. We can still be an NCAA tournament team with her.
