IMO, the PAC2 seem to think that they are due some kind of extra deference, beyond what the G5 get, because they were in the "P" for so long. That irks me in two ways. First, the Ps didn't give my USF any extra deference when we were demoted from the AQ ranks to the G ranks, and second, if anything, IMO they are due less deference, because those two had the advantages of being in a Power league for many decades while many G schools have always been at a disadvantage.

But for some reasons, those two seem entitled.

That said, I understand why they are taking this tack, they are just looking for their best interest like everyone else. But I don't like it, LOL.

Plenty of us have the experience of getting screwed and left out of the "club", in some cases multiple times over. It sucks, so I certainly get how they feel. They do have some short term structural leverage to be able to extract some concessions. They would be stupid to give that away for nothing. In a world where the current CFP deal ran for like 4-5 more years I still don't think they'd get their ask but holding up changes for that many years probably would be enough to get them some kind of payout that drastically separated them from the rest of the G5. For the current length of time of 2 years if they hold this line the P2 leagues can very easily just say "okay we can just play out 2 years as is and then we'll write you out completely and give you nothing" and there's not a damn thing the PAC2 or G5 for that matter can do if either of them press too hard.

Good points.

FWIW, when I wrote, I was thinking of the PAC2 having special considerations for 2026 and beyond. For the next two years, I expect the PAC2 to get a "P-share" of the revenue, because they were signed on as a "P" school originally for the 12 year term of the CFP.

But for 2026 and beyond, IMO they should get nothing beyond what the Gs are getting.

I think with the leverage they do have they probably can extract some kind of slightly higher payout than the rest of the G5 past 2025. I think that's achievable, but not anywhere close to a full share Power Conference member payout, and if they are willing to die on the hill that's what it takes they'll end up getting themselves and the G5 nothing past 2025.

If I am a G league commissioner, there is no way in hell I allow that to go through. As Quo stated before, where was the leniency given to the old Big East AKA American? OSU and WSU do not make a conference a power league. That is essentially putting the future reincarnation of the PAC (which will essentially be the MWC) an advantage over the other G leagues overnight.

They ain't gotta worry about the G league's agreeing to anything. If they were to get the P2 to be on board with whatever they proposed the G leagues would agree to it as long as it ensures they get their crumbs.
