Bad news for BC. I thought he was a great fit.

I feel bad for them, it seemed like they were starting to build some momentum. Who do they hire?

There's a strong candidate on staff currently - Rob Chudzinski

Al Golden is supposedly getting a lot of buzz.

Jeff Monken, Army Head coach.

Are three possibles.

I'd hire the current staffer for continuity and jump on Golden if he does not pan out.

Plus since Hafley didn't leave for a more higher paying College job, the current staffer can keep most of the staff together.

This would be absolutely huge if BC could make this happen! So far, no players or recruits have left (fingers crossed this continues!). Getting a big name hire with little to no player churn would actually leave BC in a much stronger position!

I don't think O'Brien will take it. He understandably hates what CFB has become relative to the focus on actual coaching that takes place in the NFL. I remember when Bill O'Brien first cut his teeth as an OC for Georgia Tech on George O'Leary's staff. He was just so-so and his recruiting stunk. He left with Ralph Friedgen to go to Maryland where was downgraded to RB Coach as a result. Now clearly he's learned a few thing since his first big job ... but I don't know if he has ever really embraced the recruiter role. That's something that at Alabama under Nick Saban will happen for you automatically just about. Same to a lesser extent with Penn State. He hasn't had to go out there and work to get and recruit players in a very very long time. When he last did, the results weren't good. But it has literally been more than 20 years since he was at GT and had to recruit as part of his job. Since his GT days he hasn't spent more than 1 year in college football at the same place and ONLY at a major football factory powerhouse. GT in the late 90's and early 00's under O'Leary was literally the last time he stayed somewhere long enough in college football as a position important enough to see what he can do and how he can recruit. Needless to say recruiting isn't even CLOSE to the same now as it was then.

He seems to have grown into a good coach. But I don't know if he's a fit anywhere other than the NFL and a college football superpower where recruiting can operate on autopilot from the program's pedigree and enormous cash advantages and willingness to buy players out of the portal or from other teams.

Could be...but folks close to the situation are saying otherwise. We shall see.

I read someone posted on BCInterruption that they thought if O'Brien is trying to get a head coaching job in the NFL that BC would be "a dead end". Yep, just like Tom Coughlin. After he coached at BC, his career took a nose dive... into 2 Superbowl championships as head coach of the NY Giants! Other than that, the guy sucked eggs!

The coach after Coughlin wasn't too bad, either (Henning). Tom O'Brien was okay.
I do wish they hadn't run off Jagodzinski - would've liked to see what he could go.

Bill O'Brien would be a ginormous get .... wow.

I hope it happens. It blunts the message Hafley put out last week (not a wrong take, but a potentially damaging one for BC).

Lose a coach to the NFL ... replace him with a coach from the NFL -- that has extensive experience at the highest parts of college football to boot.

Solid.

Get 'er done!!
