Trei Cruz is playing shortstop for Puerto Rico in the 2024 Caribbean Series, this year in the Miami Marlins home field: LoanDepot Park.
He's appeared in two of his team's five games so far.
He went 0-5 in Saturday's 5-2 loss to the Dominican Republic.
B1: 1st pitch, 4-3 ground out.
B3: 7-pitch AB with a runner at 1B. K on a 3-2 pitch.
B5: 5-pitch AB. 3-1 pitch, hit into a 4-3 ground out.
B7: Safe on an E9. Went to 2B on a wild pitch. Moved to 3rd on a fielder's choice grounder, where he was stranded.
B9: 0-1 pitch, flyout to left ... the final out of the game.
In tonight's 9-7 loss to undefeated Panama, he came in to play SS in B8. His only AB was in T9. After a 2-out solo homer and single, Trei was the tying run at the plate. On a 1-1 pitch, he hit a routine flyout to left, ending the game.
Puerto Rico's other shortstop, Jack Lopez, is 2 for 6 in three games, with a triple, a walk, hit-by-pitch, 2 RBIs, 3 stolen bases, and a sacrifice.
Puerto Rico is now 3-2, in 3rd place in the 7-team competition. They are behind Panama (4-0) & Venezuela (3-1) and ahead of Dominican Republic & Curacao, both 2-2. Its final game is Wednesday morning vs. Curacao ... and it could determine who makes it into the 4-team semifinals, which are to be played the next day. The championship & 3rd-place games are scheduled for Friday.
